Dolphins interested in WR Laurent Robinson

who on this wr core is the same threat and quality talent as a dez bryant??? its not here...so even if he made plays in dallas when austin was out which i'm aware of him doing if he comes here he's getting the oppositions top corner over and over cause there's no one else here that dcs feel is a real threat...and if robinson did start showing he could make plays given what we have in house they'll just roll coverage his way and man up other guys and make them beat him...but i've yet to see rolled coverage with laurent robinson since he's been in the league...he's always got the one on one look...thats usually the way it goes with guys who have pretty much #3 wr talent

you have no idea what GB's offense is like do you? I mean, they had 5 friggin TE's on the roster.

So your implying he would be our #1 guy? cmon Hooshoops. I know your pissed but....dont get out of control here. I think you can kind of guess where Philbin is going here? BM is trouble. Philbin dont want no trouble in his locker room.

your not gonna pay him #1 wr money unless your a moron but yes if he comes here he's probably your #1 wr...hartline isn't...bess is a slot guy...gates is raw at this stage...so yeah he's your #1 wr and likely gonna get over and over the oppositions best coverage guy and command the most attention...i think frankly he'll get locked down when you ask him to be for you more than what he really is...a nice #3 boundary wr

Dez was never a factor in the 2nd half of any Dallas game last year- the coaches called him out for it all year. Everyone knew where Romo was going in the Red Zone and Robinson still beasted with 11 TDs.

Besides being clutch in the red zone he also led them in YPC. This is very much a Joe Philbin move to me. Seems like the type of receiver that fits perfect with the GB system, especially if we draft Blackmon.

it doesn't matter...dez got the oppositions top corner over and over and rolled coverage over and over...laurent robinson did not

well until he is signed it's all hypothetical so we really don't know how anybody is going to fit in anywhere.

your all over the place...yeah i got no idea about green bays offense...if thats what you think then whatever

He's not Brandon Marshall. Very few in the league are. He won't be making Marshall-type money.

But he is a solid signing. Dallas is still trying to get him back, and I doubt Jerry lets him leave.

That's part of my point though. What is to stop Philbin from creating the best mismatch for Robinson a la shifting, motions, etc. Why would Robinson "have to" play out wide?

Philbin: "We want to create mismatches with our formations, our motion, our shifting."

I'm not sure we'll be playing "Brandon Marshall on an island ball" anymore. It is clear we don't have the alpha receiver type on our on our roster, so why force that kind of play still?

Because he's a 6'2 195lb speedster, especially straight line.....you don't play those guys in the slot b/c doing so diminishes what they are best at, making plays in open space. Even if you put him in motion, the CB will shadow him in a man defense. Motioning him will only free him up against zone teams. Can you create mismatches? Sure, sometimes. I think the reason so many are upset with this is b/c the WR market is EXTREMELY thin right now, which means teams will overpay for #2/#3 guys like Robinson when they don't really deserve that big money. He's played for 4 teams in 5 years and only had 1 good year in his career with multiple years of injury (mostly leg injuries, those things are skinny). To me, that doesn't warrant big money that could be better spent elsewhere. If they can get him at a good price, fine. But i don't see that happening.

I can't really comment on what type of player Robinson is, but his combine numbers back in the day were damn good and he's athletic. Maybe he fits into Philbin's offense. I mean the Rams REALLY wanted him for their WCO when Shurmur was their OC

watch to see what kind of money he signs for if he signs with jax...i'm betting its high level #2 wr money worst case...he won't get garcon money by any means but he'll get his

the moneys my biggest issue...that and only the one year of production and injury history...lots of red flags if you ask me

I only saw Dallas in a handful of games but he was easily their best WR last year.

He looked VERY impressive vs the Giants D that shut down everyone in their late season run, including Philbins GB offense.

Well, I can't fairly say he won't be effective in a role here because there is no evidence that he wouldn't, as he did shine considerably well for Dallas last year.

A player on the rise it seems, looking for a starting role, and I too hope we don't overspend.

Here is the breakdown of his games last year vs various opponents and detailing what other WRs were playing. Might help give a better idea of what he can do on the outside. Bryant did play in every game (thought he may have missed some). So the games Austin was out Robinson was the #2.

Week 1 vs Jets - 0 catches, 0 yards (Austin active)
Week 2 - DNP
Week 3 vs Wash - 3 catches, 49 yards (Austin active)
Week 4 vs Detroit - 7 catches 116 yards (Austin Out)
Week 5 - DNP
Week 6 vs NE - 2 catches, 43 yards (Austin active)
Week 7 vs Rams - 2 Catches, 25 yards (Austin active)
Week 8 vs Eagles - 5 catches 103 yards, 1 TD (Austin Active)
Week 9 vs Seattle - 5 catches, 32 yards, TD (Austin Active)
Week 10 vs Buffalo - 3 catches, 73 yards, 2 TDs (Austin OUT)
Week 11 vs Wash - 4 catches 34 yards, TD (Austin out)
Week 12 vs Miami - 7 catches, 79 yards, 2 TD (Austin Out)
Week 13 vs Arizona - 4 catches, 72 yards (Austin out)
Week 14 vs Giants - 4 catches, 137 yards, TD (Austin active)
Week 15 vs Bucs - 3 catches, 29 yards, TD (Austin Active)
Week 16 vs Eagles - 1 catch, 5 yards (Austin active)
Week 17 vs Giants - 4 catches, 61 yards, 2 TDs (Austin active)

So, as the #3 WR in 10 games he totaled 27 catches, 484 yards and 6 Tds.

As the #2 outside WR (which he would project at here) in 5 games he totaled 25 catches, 374 yards and 5 TDs.

So you tell me....better on the outside, or better as the #3 in the slot?

Austin played the slot when all three were healthy at least towards the end of the season.
