Yes, this probably should be in the draft section, but this is some pretty big news and deserves the main forum.
The Miami Dolphins could soon be off the clock.

The Dolphins have formally begun contract negotiations with agent Tom Condon about the prospect of selecting former Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long as the first overall selection in this year's draft.

Condon, who also represents Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan, was in South Florida early this week to negotiate specifically on behalf of Long at the request of the team, The Miami Herald has learned.

The article also says that Miami is happy with Beck and Matt Ryan is NOT an option.

Also, no in person talks are scheduled with Chris Long's agent.

There is still time before the draft, and they are likely to talk with Chris Long's agent, but I would say the odds of taking Jake Long(YES, he is a LT) have greatly increased.

this is ridiculous! if they make him sit under those hot lights all through the first round....

Also, Jake Long has been officially invited to the NFL draft, so if/when he is selected by the Dolphins he will be there to shake hands and get the Dolphins jersey.

sweet. pretty much just what i wanted to hear.jim mandich is smiling somewhere.meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeechigan!

I love the news. I would then be led to believe that at #32 we are looking at DE/OLB guys that would thrive in the 3-4. Quentin Groves, whom I think will be gone at that number, and Calais Campbell would be our ideal targets. I also wouldn't mind seeing someone like Jerrod Mayo with the first pick in the second round.

Jake Long. I like it! finally, someone to take the place of Richmond Webb.

It seems to be too soon for something like this. I think they will talk with all the top propects, not just Jake.

we need anchors on our O-line for years. This would be a good signing.
I am so tired of having a turn style for an o-line year after year after year.

and i see pro bowl for big Vernon at right tackle.what a turnaround if jake long makes the pro bowl and vernon makes the pro bowl.wow. and possible.

Anti-climatic...

It'll be over... before it even get started... the drama that is..., Bill shoppped around there are no suitors... Bill being wise.... Bill doesn't want the drama of the fans calling out FO like what happened to CamRam last year... And this is a smart move... Is there signability and is he a classy guy all around...., who needs the drama...? How does the help anyone but the NFL and media "drama" doesn't help the organization move forward...

Logic says J.Long... RB and Beck are likely happy about this... Sparano likely behind this too... The smoke and mirrors days of Nick Saban are likely over... thankfully...
