The ongoing debate regarding whether the Dolphins’ Jake Long or Denver’s Ryan Clady is the top young offensive tackle in the NFL got ratcheted up another notch Thursday when Clady finished ahead of Long in balloting for the AP All-Pro team.
Clady joined Cleveland veteran Joe Thomas as the tackles on the All-Pro first team.
Long was the No. 1 pick in the 2008 draft while Clady went to Denver at No. 12. Clady got a lot of attention in his rookie season for giving up just one-half sack.
But Long had by far the better year statistically this season. According to ProFootballFocus.com, which ranked Long as the second-best tackle in the AFC behind Thomas, Long gave up four sacks, five QB hits and nine pressures this season while Clady gave up eight sacks, seven hits and 22 pressures. Clady was ranked only the No. 16 tackle; the Dolphins’ Vernon Carey was at No. 8.
