Dolphins @ Jets: CBS Announce Team

Wow, a well-written and coherent article from Paul Zimmerman! I don't agree with some of his analysis, for example, I think Ian Eagle is terrible, and I can't imagine how he failed to call out Kevin Harlan for announcing EVERY PLAY LIKE IT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT PLAY IN NFL HISTORY! (Sorry for the all caps, but if you've listened to Harlan, you can appreciate that.)

EDIT: The think Zim failed to mention, and I note this because it drives me completely nucking futs, is that Tasker is the biggest homer currently occupying a broadcast booth. You don't see Aikman giving props to the Cowboys, and he's only the greatest QB in their storied history. But watch Tasker (a fine special teamer, but in the end, really just a footnote in Buffalo Bills history) do a Bills game and you'll want to impale a pen into your ears by the 3rd quarter.

At least it's not Dan Dierdorf and whatever monkey boy they stick with him. He is awful. Almost as bad a Thiesman and Mcguire.

Dierdorf and McGuire are both horrible. What I can't stand about those two is that they start off always hating on the Phins, but of course if the Phins are winning, they become bandwagon fans and praise how well the coaching and the players are doing. Theisman is most of the time always rooting for the Phins, but that doesn't excuse some of the dumb analysis he makes...

yes everyone hates the phins, all announcers root against the phins b/c they want to see them lose

in 1981, NBC broadcast the entire Jets-Dolphins game with no announcers... it was the greatest innovation in TV football history...

i beg them to repeat it...

Actually it was 1980 not '81.

regardless..... it was the only game in NFL tv history where you didn't have to hear two/three blowhards overstating the obvious every 20 seconds...

I don't remember watching that game although I might have and don't remember it. I can remember as far back as '81 and i guess the announcer-less game didn't go over too well.

Uhhh, that "monkey boy" is Dick Enberg, who is STILL one of the elite announcers out there. It doesn't matter what sport he does; football, tennis, golf - the guy is amazing. Say what you want about Dierdorf, I like him too personally, but Enberg is talent & class un-matched by nearly anyone else in any sport.

Ian is a Jets Homer...just like Rich Eisen on NFL Net and Greenie on ESPN...they simply cannot be impartial when they are discussing their beloved gang green

that was a different age... they didn't market it well.... today, i feel it would be embraced.... ask yourself, how tremendous would it be to just hear the crowd and the pads clashing? add to that the delicious quiet between plays, not yap yap yap... all the network needs to do is provide us graphics for down and distance and stats....

repeat after me... FOOTBALL DOES NOT NEED ANNOUNCERS!

This year the CFL had a similar circumstance in which the TV company locked out their announcers! So a couple games were played without announce teams, it was really weird I must admit, and certainly didn't help a game that is already inferior to the NFL

Enberg lost it long ago, he still has a classic voice but he is not an elite pBP man anymore. he misses too much of the action, he's just too old.

Ian is not a Jets homer, in fact he tends to be more critical so people don't think he is being partial to the Jets.
