Dolphins must make is whether to use the franchise tag. This is something Miami has not utilized since 2013, when the team used the one-year tag on defensive tackle Randy Starks. The Dolphins also used the franchise tag in 2011 on defensive tackle Paul Soliai.

Is there a Dolphins free agent who could be a candidate this year? Let’s examine.

No. 1: TE Charles Clay

Approximate tag value: $8.2 million

Could be gone...not worth 8mil. IMHO...

No. 2: DT Jared Odrick

Approximate tag value: $11 million

He gone...plus JP can't stand hisass.

Keep Albert, James, Pouncey, Tannehill, Landry, Wallace, Hartline, Miller, and scrap the rest on offense.

Fins wont use the tag on anyone this year. No one worth it.

Clay will get a decent contract probably something around the $5-6 range per year. (Greg Olsen/Dennis Pitta Range)

Odrick, hope we bring him back he should get a nice deal nothing crazy something around $6-7 per year. (Hatcher/Melton Range)

Pouncey gets the 5th year option at $7.5

Come to think of it, Dolphins really only have 4-5 targets to bring back (Clay, Odrick, Pouncey, Delmas)

Rest of the FA class, personally can take camp invites for all I care, if I would even give them that. (Colledge, Satele, Jimmy Wilson, Trusnick, Fox, Sheppard, Raw Dog, Freeny, Kovacs, Daniel Thomas)

Toss in the cap cuts for over paid players (Hartline, Gibson, Ellerbe, Wheeler, Starks, Finnegan, Fields, Garner)

Potentially looking at a 19 player over-haul. Damn near 36% of the active roster shift.

Hickey has his work cut out for him in FA and Draft. Not just to pick up play makers but good depth.

I don't see us using the tag either. Clay will be interesting because of him coming off an injury. Wasn't the most successful season for him and Sims is emerging.

I'd like to keep him.

Dion Sims isn't even a lineman but he can block better than most of them on the team, The dude is a beast.

I'd like to keep Clay too but like I said before he's not a real TE IMHO.

He's a FB.

Like Rob Konrad was. Only Clay is faster (not too sure though they may be the same speed).

I think we find a way of keeping them both, if we want them. I'd like to keep Clay, but it won't break my heart if we don't.

I like Odrick but 25 tackles 1 sack on a terrible run defense idk how u could give him a deal ,, and if we don't resign Clay we can have fun watching him on the Pats next year causing havoc with Gronk... He is a must sign for me ..

konrad was a swimmer masquerading as a FB.

Clay has an intangible that you can't easily replace - he punches above his weight when he has the ball and he makes plays in key situations. Can't franchise him but you have to resign him.

I agree totally, Clay is an hybrid FB/TE/WR. He is our jack of all trade...
