The Miami Dolphins have their most talented collection of players since head coach Joe Philbin took over four seasons ago. This means Miami’s front office and coaching staff will have plenty of tough decisions to make this summer.
I continue to look at some of the interesting players on the roster bubble. Next up is a young linebacker competing for a starting job.
Bubble player: Jordan Tripp
Position: Outside linebacker
Experience: Second season
Analysis: Tripp is in an interesting spot for the Dolphins. This is a team in need of linebackers to step up, so there is plenty of opportunity for the 2014 draft pick. He’s competing with Chris McCain and Spencer Paysinger for the starting job at linebacker. McCain is the leader in the clubhouse and did a good job of creating separation in organized team activities and minicamp. Tripp must stay healthy to prove his value. He could provide depth at linebacker and contribute on special teams.
Chances of making 53-man roster: 70 percent

thoughts?

I'll be surprised and disappointed if Tripp doesn't earn a spot. He has the attitude, athletics and size, and he is one of the best fumble forcers we have had through our LB corps in a long time.

I was expecting him to take a step up this year. But so far, I haven't heard much about him this offseason. With Hull, Vigil and Luc pushing for roster spots, it's time for Tripp to step it up.

This threw me a curveball as I was projecting Tripp to be a future starter (still can be of course) but I never questioned if he would be cut or not. This is his second year for damn sakes lets see what the man can do!! I'm a big homer though because after we drafted him I viewed him as our new Zach Thomas.

What has this kid done in preseason in special teams or in genuine defensive snaps that has so many on here confident about him?

He was a fifth rounder and so far he's played to that level at absolute best. We have several udfas who have contributed much more at deeper positions.

If Tripp vanished tomorrow it would make zero difference to the team. I wish him success, but have seen nothing to make me expect it.

Last training camp he seemed to be a rising star getting plenty of looks with the first team, until his injury derailed him for a good while.

Don't worry, you have a new one in Zach Vigil. Every white LB we sign we all feel is the second coming of Zach

But wait a minute I thought he was the next Zach Thomas because he plays well in shorts

I think he was a 5th rounder, because he came from a small school, and he was undersized. That translates to a longer development process and a higher bust factor; however, I think it's wrong to count him out at this point. He's a guy that needed a second off season to bulk up, but he's a very, very athletic LB - almost elite in that category. He also seems like a good guy and a hard worker. I see no reason to give up on him at this point. I was a big Mike Hull fan, and he's the best athlete of the UDFA LB's, but he's nowhere near the athlete that Tripp is.

If he comes out and hasn't added strength and plays like garbage, you of course have to look at cutting him, but outside of that, I don't see it.

James Walker has been doing these on a bunch of players....but does seem odd though to call him a bubble player and say he has a 70% chance of making the team.

You're damn right! A little homerism doesn't hurt anyone but myself. Peace.

Pads are overrated bro.

Tripp has the advantage of knowing (hopefully) the playbook. i think he sticks as well as one or two of the new guys.
Remember we have to replace Trusnik on specials and as a back up plus Wheeler and Ellerbe.
I'd say Misi and Jenkins are locks but after that it's still unclear even though McCain is stepping up and they seem to really like Sheppard.

I'm looking forward to see if Tripp can use his amazing athleticism to the football field
Less we forget Tripp had a 6.89 second three cone drill time which would have been 4th best
of any linebacker in the 2015 draft

As well as a 3.96 second short shuttle time which
would have been #1 of any linebacker in the 2015 draft and tied with AJ Hawk for the
best short shuttle time of any linebacker at the combine since 2006.
