Dolphins left guard Justin Smiley fined for low block

By Omar Kelly |SunSentinel.com3:04 PM EST, November 28, 2008 DAVIE - Linebacker Channing Crowder wasn't the only Dolphins player whose wallet became a little lighter as a result of Sunday's loss to the Patriots.

Dolphins left guard Justin Smiley was fined $5,000 by the NFL for a low block he executed against Patriots defensive end Richard Seymour in the fourth-quarter of last Sunday's 48-28 loss, which also featured a fight between Crowder and Patriots tackle Matt Light that drew $15,000 fines for both players.

Smiley blamed the "chop block" on a miscommunication between him and tailback Ricky Williams, who was also involved in the block on Seymour.

Smiley said he plans to appeal the fine.
