Dolphins | Lehan says Culpepper doing well
Thu, 20 Jul 2006 19:47:30 -0700
Sid Hartman, of the Star Tribune, reports Miami Dolphins CB Michael Lehan says Dolphins' QB Daunte Culpepper (knee) is doing very well following major knee surgery. While Culpepper might not play during the preseason, he should be ready to play by the season opener. "He has been cutting and doing most everything during our camp," Lehan said.

I love how this guy finally gets an interview and all they ask him is how is Cpep doing?

Uh, does anyone here think it's a good idea for Culpepper to start the season opener after not going through preseason games, and how fast can a player adjust to game speed? Seriously, we are playing the Steelers that week, it can get dangerous. Culpepper hasn't played a single game since week 8 of last year.

Typically your right that would affect someone, but Cpepp is an elite qb in this league with experience under his belt. It should take him no more than one quarter to get back into it

i don't think culpepper misses the entire preseason, probably just the first two games.

so if he doesn't play in the preseason when should we let him play? never?

maybe he'll get a few snaps in preseason who knows... but as long as hes practicing full speed and doing fine there i think he'll be ok for an actual game even if he doesn't play in preseason...

Uh, who said he wasn't playing preseason? I haven't heard that officialy anywhere. I believe he will be playing preseason and alot more then most people think.

If Daunte wants to be one of the very best QBs in the NFL he needs to do the things that the QBs that are among the best are doing. There's good reasons why people think that Peyton and Brady are probably the best in the NFL. They do certain things like making excellent reads and putting the ball in tight spaces at just the right time.

Somehow or another, Daunte needs to work on his mental game to get that "grace under pressure" that Brady has. I guess he just needs to watch lots of game films and work with the coaches on the Xs and Os ...find out what Daunte is really good at and see what they can do to maximize it while minimizing his weaknesses.

Teams that want to get better would be wise to study how the competition is getting results and why:

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/patriots/2006-07-19-elite-qb_x.htm

"You try to play error-free football more so than any other games you play in," he said. "You're playing the best teams in the league, and when you play the best teams in the league, any one mistake can get you beat. The games usually come down to one or two plays. Every opportunity that you have in the scoring zone, you have to take advantage. Every open receiver you have, you need to able to hit them."

"He is always calm and always laid back and relaxed," Wilson said. "You never see Brady panic."

"That trait is made clear by Brady's 7-0 record in overtime games, the NFL record for OT victories without a loss."

Added Shanahan: "He has the ability to focus downfield with a pass rush right in his face, and there's not a lot of guys who can do that. ... Tom has just gotten better and better every year."

The Miami defense needs to work hard on ways to at least contain Brady:

"Buffalo Bills safety Troy Vincent said, against Brady, "If you don't pressure him, you have absolutely no chance."

"You don't want (Brady) just looking at your defense and staring you down and looking you over, because 95% of the time he is going to make the right call and put the ball in the right place."

Really though... who the hell is Lehan? Anyone know?

As for DC not playing in preseason games, the starting QB usually only plays one series of downs or max one quarter in preseason game 1. Then maybe max 2 quarters in preseason game 2, and even in the final preseason game they only play maybe a half. So: 1. I don't see it hurting DC that much if he misses a couple preseason games, and 2. if he does, how can it hurt him that much?

The preseason dosen't matter so i wouldn't risk putting Culpepper in for the preseason. If anything let the other three guys get some playing time and let Pep's knee continue to heal. It's good hear that he's doing well.
