Dolphins' Liam Eichenberg and Austin Jackson progressing on bumpy roads

What’s worse than a lost cause? Because that’s Eichenberg.

I honestly don't understand why we're even entertaining the thought of potentially starting Eichenberg.

Jackson I get. He was a raw prospect with very little experience, thrown into the starting lineup while trained by an inexperienced OL coach. Once the coaching got better, Jackson got hurt. He's still young, reported back in great shape, if he stays healthy and can learn, we might have something there. But that was always the point - raw guy with high ceiling. Someone with potential to improve.

Eichenberg was the exact opposite. Loads of experience, "NFL ready", "Plug and Play", these were the buzzwords. Ever since, he's been consistently rated as one of the 5 worst linemen, regardless of side, position, opponent, coaching. 3 years, the guy has looked consistently terrible. In year 3, we're eating sacks at his spot when the DL tries a stunt, exactly the same way as in his rookie year. When is it enough?

It's especially mindboggling to me, because last year, when Eichenberg went down, we tried the UDFA Robert Jones, who is a year younger, has been with the team since 2021, and we looked instantly better. For example, Jones started first against the Bears. We scored on almost every drive that game. No sacks either. Then started against the Browns and the Texans, and we dominated both of those teams as well. I'm not saying he's the answer, but he was definitely better than freaking Eichenberg! I don't get it.

IMO Eichenberg is on borrowed time. He won't win the battle out of camp, and will slot into a backup role. I can't handle another season watching our starting LG be turned into humpty dumpty by the DL.

Austin Jackson wins the RT job. If he can stay healthy I believe he will have a good year. He showed up to camp in shape, ready to compete, and saying all the right things.

This OL/DL is a catch 22 for me. If OL dominates I am worried about our DL and vice versa.

When's the first practice with another team?
The DL had always been good or definitely well above average. The OL on the other hand…

That’s the concern until we see better the way I see it. I mean we have the same conversation for years about the OL.

It’s early and D always ahead, let’s wait to pads come on, let’s wait to we see them gel together in pre season etc

I do think it’s a good point, they are dealing with arguably the best from 7 in the game at the moment

 ^^^ ALL OF THIS

Eich just doesn't have it.

Grier is holding on to AJ and LE to make his horrible picks look better. 2 of the biggest busts in Dolphins history picked in the same draft BOTH in the first round. (Iggy and AJ)

And Liam Eichenberg another reach instead of BPA. Chris Grier should be fired for this. He built a team with great weapons but with no oline. He said the oline was fine. This guy is negligently ignorant.

You summarize something I also don’t understand - why not just focus on Robert Jones’ development? He’s never been embarrassed while on the field. I like the potential of Wynn at LG, but are we better positioned to let Wynn be the swing-tackle backup? So, focus on Jones at LG.

We are wasting first-team reps on Eichenberg. He’s terrible. And having him on the field is literally dangerous to the health of our QB.

So Mcd and the OL coaches want to get rid of them but Grier refused?

Who acquired them? Grier is head of player personnel and evaluation. Truthfully, what should really get him fired, is not that he missed on those picks, it is that he came out this offseason and said the oline was good how it was, and didnt make any moves at all to change the starting line up... instead he actually doubled down for the 4th straight year on AJ.

If Tua gets hurt evading a sack as he always does, it is Grier's fault, due to the crap oline. If we cant run the ball effectively again, it is Grier's fault because of the oline.

It used to be Flores' fault, now it is MM and the oline coaches faults, and next it will be whoever the next Head Coach/Scapegoat is, while Chris Grier continues to handicap this team.

I am hoping that I am wrong somehow and that Tua can make it through the season healthy, and that the oline can create lanes for the run game, and I will relent, but if we cant, it is time we move on from Chris Grier.

Notice the difference. I replied to "Grier is holding on to AJ and LE to make his horrible picks look better."You responded with "Who acquired them?" The topic is 'Grier holding on to them.' Not Mcd and coaches. Not Grier AND Mcd and coaches. Grier by himself. No offense, but the topoic is "holding on to them" - not "who acquired them."

They’ve invested vast resources into the line with various styles of OL being chosen in various rounds.

There’s a dearth of talent at OL in the nfl. Look at mediocre OLgetting contracts well into their mid 30s.

Jesse Davis is still collecting a paycheck for gods sake

Jackson is a lost cause. I really think so. Never wanted to draft him. But we having. Nothhhg at right tackle. Wynn wasn’t very good at right tackle.
Unfortunately I agree with this.
But it seems like the FO should know more than we do.
I sure hope the OL and RT can create a run game and protect Tua.
