Dolphins coaches had asked Raekwon McMillan so many questions about his former Ohio State teammate Jerome Baker that there really was no surprise when the third-round pick was announced.

“Every time they asked, I said, ‘Man, take him,’” McMillan recalled this week. “And he’s a special player. As y’all can see.”

There are few positives in this Dolphins season, which can finish no better than 8-8. Miami’s defense has been poor overall. But the late-season growth of linebackers McMillan and Baker is one very positive development.

Baker showed signs and potential on a pretty consistent basis. Looking forward to seeing him next year with a new staff..

McMillan Is he one of our LBrs.... What, did he actually make a few tackles late in the season or are we just happy that our LBing core knows where the field is...

Clearly Kiko was our best LB and Baker promising, but Kiko as our best leaves a huge gap for improvement and McMillan IMO is possibly a decent backup at this point from what I've seen...
Think possibly Mc's biggest help was pushing for Baker in the draft...

I admit, after the first few games, I was ready to draft another Mike, but as the season went on, and the injury was truly behind him, he played quite well.

I think Baker was about as good as you could hope for, being that he wasn't a first rounder.

Nothing is for sure, but these two could be a solid foundation for the next few years.

Well, if they both could become good and consistent LB's it'd go a long way. I don't think neither one is there yet but they're both young. It'd help of course if we had a better D-line in front of them but we'll see how they do next year.

I liked Baker from the first game. His speed is great and he was around the ball lots. With a season under his belt, I think he gets even better next year.

But both keep me from making LB the #1 need

LOL... Not those two that make us skip LB at #1

Sadly the reason why is that we need help even more drastically in other areas and not out of a our LBing core being even close to adequate.... probably save that #1 pick for the LB in the next draft if were not QB infatuated, And one is worthy and available at #1

But we definitely need upgrade in the LB dept. In fact we have for some time...Baker could be a nice start but we need more time to see more of his developement.. Expect one in FA..and hope he's quality and not just another old hasbeen signed to fill a hole...

My take -- McMillan is serviceable at best. I seriously doubt he ever turns into anything "special."

And yea, we all know having a "special" MLB makes a huge difference on D.

Bottom line -- if you can get one -- you do it!

Beyond that --- this team is "not right" in terms of blending/optimizing talent

relative to the system we use. Doesn't seem like there's a cohesive whole to any of our units.

LB, OL, DBs, WRs, TEs... Seems to me we have a bunch of pieces that don't fit together

very well... Makes it almost impossible to play complimentary football.

Mcmillan came on inside the tackles but its still not enough. Need more consistent production. Will never fix the range.

Baker might make a top 10 olb down the road. Might. But thats probably tbe ceiling of it. Dont think hes headed for telvin smith territory and this draft class has brought some good looking lbs to the nfl.

Gain 5 lbs lets see what he looks like next year.

they are both terrible. specially mcmillan

Realistically they are both rookies. Baker for his first year was above average, McM was below average, but improved. None of them are ILB thumpers, like Lewis, Urlacher, Zac etc, and thats what we need. To call them both terrible is a stretch.

I think they're both still a work in progress, but trending in the right direction.
I think we still have questions as to whether either of them are being "coached up" to their potential. Sometimes the ENTIRE defense looks as if they don't know what to do.
