In transitioning from a forgettable 2017 to the current off-season, much of what this year means for the Miami Dolphins can be essentially condensed and crystallized down to two basic dynamics: the return of a healthy Ryan Tannehill and what should be a much improved defense. As hard as it is to believe, Miami wasn’t nearly as bad defensively in 2017 as they had been in prior seasons, finishing sixteenth overall in total defense. Of course, we also know that those numbers are somewhat skewed, due to the Dolphins having largely shutting down some offenses (Tennessee, Denver) while being gashed unmercifully by too many others (Baltimore, Carolina, Kansas City).

Well, we are all hinging a lot of hope on McMillan this year. Hopefully he learned a lot on the sideline and can be the mike we need.

Baker needs to develop and I want him to be nice coverage backer for us, but i don’t think we see him out there a ton starting out.

I’m not a big kiko fan anymore, i used to like him more but he just doesn’t seem to be great in space. Maybe a better overall D and LBs will help hide him some

Anthony probably is what he is. Keep his job simple and it might be okay. Allen could be developing into an ok Backup or spot guy over Anthony

The article mentioned the Phins said we are going to use TJ as a coverage backer at times? When? I recall
them saying “he is a safety”

I hope Poling kicks Hull to the curb

I hope loosing Suh doesn't expose our LB corp even more. I say this group has potential last years group did not but we have little experience so that hurts. I say its probably still out weak link but maybe DT

The linebacking unit is unproven as yet. Our mike, while has a nice ceiling, but hasn't played a down of NFL football.

We also are not very deep in the event of injury. If Baker turns out to be a stud, we should be fine. It might be mid season, or even next year before we can make that assessment.

For better, or worse, it appears we will be playing a lot of 2 backer sets. The only way to do that effectively is STOP the run, or, consistently have a 2 score lead.

Our LB's, like many parts of our team, are young, lots of potential and unproven. Hope McMillan can play downhill without having to think too much.

This article isn't doing it for me.

I thought it was said explicity by gase TJ was not going to be used as a LB. And I do not agree with reprimanding the coaching staff for using Raekwon on ST. Since when are we supposed to shelve rookies from ST in fear that they may suffer a torn ACL? It was a complete fluke of an injury.

As has been stated our LB unit has a ton to prove and should be incrementally better only if Raekwon can come into his role at MLB and be the player I personally think he can be.

A healthy McMillan improves this unit quite a bit. I know there is a lot at stake with a rookie coming off an ACL injury.

I just hope he can have a solid campaign and take pressure off Alanzo's role. Also Fitz roaming around at Safety is gonna help a lot too.

There is is reasonable expectation that the linebacker play should be improved markedly over last year's unit.

I couldn't be anymore pumped for the additions of Minkah Fitzpatrick, Jerome Baker and the expected return of Raekwon McMillan to a defense that needs some freshness. Aside from the physical talents these guys bring, the winning pedigree doesn't hurt either. I'm generally not a fan of Alabama players, I say as a biased Ohio State fan. I couldn't be happier to have Kenyan Drake and Minkah Fitzpatrick on our roster.

I want winners.

McMillan, despite being a freshman, was an integral part of Ohio State's last national championship win. While Jerome Baker was still a senior in HS that year, he played his best in OSU's biggest games. Minkah Fitzpatrick is obviously a 2X national championship at Alabama and a big reason for their success during his stay.

I would still be pumped to have their talents even if they went to LSU or Michigan but I am glad they are used to winning already.

I haven't bought a jersey in quite a while, there are some kids here that I could see myself donning their #.

I think they said he would not be switching to LB but they also said we will see 3 safeties on the field at times so he may have LB-type responsibilities on those plays.
