Good article on upcoming position battles...add your 2cents.

One of my looks is this one which I've mentioned before..

7. Rodrique Wright vs. Lionel Dotson...for the role as the fourth defensive end

This is a battle of former seventh-round pick, and it's likely the player with the most upside that gets into the rotation. I keep hearing Dotson is a load to block, but remains very raw. Last season Wright was used in a break in case of emergency role, but his size and skills brings value. Wright, who only dressed for last year's playoff game, contributed 37 tackles and 1.5 sacks in 2007 as an injury fill-in.

It's amazing how Wright's career has gone, one moment he is one of the top DT in the draft, potential 1st round pick, and defensive hero for Texas when they won the national championship, we find out he had been playing with an injury all year, and he become a 7th round pick that has yet to reach his very large potential. When we took him, I thought we got the biggest steal in ages.....what a shame

I think the Patrick Cobbs Vs Ted Ginn for starting specials teams returning is the most interesting. I can remember myself last year saying "WHY ISNT GINN IN THERE" over 100 times. To me it seems pretty obvious who should be back there but im definitely not the one calling the shots....Probably for good reason :-)

I think one of the big reasons for his decline as a returner, along with poor blocking, is that he has focused on wide receiver. The same thing happened to Devin Hester last year. In the first two seasons of his career Hester was the best returner of all time and then he stopped being good when he became a full time wide receiver.

I don't think Rodrique Wright makes it to the opening day roster. I think that Dotson has more upside...

I don't know about that, Wright was impressive in his limit role in 2007, his first opportunity to play, I think the drafting of Langford and Merling last year set him back, because the new regime wanted their players to shine.. Dotson is on the radar, but if Wright gets an opportunity I think he shines, he's young too.. it's not like he's a 8 year vet. Notice it was he, not dotson who was dressed for the playoffs last year..that's a good sign that the new regime sees something in him, he, dotson, Starks and Merling are why we were able to let Holiday go.. The FO must have thought they had good depth there.

my sentiments exactly...

i still hold out high hopes for the guy... maybe hes not adjusted to the 3-4 and its hurt his development? who knows

Did Saban draft Wright? What was the injury again?
My mind is a little foggy this morning.

Yea Saban drafted him, I think he had a torn rotator cluff or something like that, so we allowed him to rehab his first season and then Saban left.. He got on the field his second year with Cam..played pretty good, and then last year the new regime brought in all their guys, and didn't give him a chance but I'm sure they saw his potential, because he remained on the team and we cut Holiday, which mean the FO thought we had the depth, and I'm sure he's one of the reasons along with Merling, Starks, and Dotson.

I'm just glad we now have battles at most positions. you never have enough talent.

both R.Wright & J.Allen have a punchers chance in this fight
unfortunately, they both need knock-outs to pull off a win. they're in the later rounds & losing on points. this season will define them as Miami Dolphins or NFL Busts. there will be no more excuses.

I think the writer got the battle for RG wrong. I think it should be Donald Thomas vs Samson Satele, and not Joe Berger.

No way we sign Berger for the money he go and not give him a chance to compete. I think in TC LG and RG are up for grabs with everyone getting several chances at both positions.
