Dolphins Live: Jesse Davis, Kenyan Drake, And Bobby Mccain Meets With The Media

Jesse Davis - T - Dolphins
Jesse Davis is penciled in as the Dolphins' starting right guard.

A fourth-year undrafted free agent, Davis made the first 16 appearances of his career last season, including 10 starts between left guard and right guard. He was a major liability. The fact that he remains in line for a starting job speaks to what a trouble spot the Dolphins' interior line remains even after the signing of Josh Sitton.

I remember Davis being a great player last year. Wut

Now every offensive player knows how to get into Bobby McCain's head. Just ask him about his contract situation!

Jesse Davis has become my favorite Dolphin. Hope he pancakes every DT he faces this year.

Kenyan Drake looks like he's put on some muscle - he's built and the sleeves on his T-shirt didn't mysteriously disappear - they were cut off for effect. Also excellent to hear him openly showing his respect for Frank Gore in the video. Truth be told, Drake was behind a major diva in Jay Ajayi, up until his departure via the trade to the Eagles half way through last season. We only got a 4th round Draft pick because after the terrible Ravens game by Ajayi, Coach Gase concluded he wanted him gone, immediately. The contrast for Drake between Ajayi and Gore as a role model is huge. Gone from one of the most selfish teammates to one of the best professionals in the game who will probably go into the Hall of Fame (and Frank the Tank isn't focused on the launch of a clothing brand for a game in London).
BTW, when we watch the softly spoken guy in the video above, one may forget that Kenyan Drake was actually the guy who pulled off the miracle 95 yard TD to win the 2016 National College Football Championship game for Alabama. He knows how to perform on a very big stage.

whatever barry, whatever barry...

I was all for the kid starting somewhere on the line whether G or T. If Nelson was available for us in the draft I was all for trading JJ and letting JD be starting RT. If JD and Young could solidify the right side the last half of last year, I have faith in a healthy JJ and JD can make the right side very nice

BTW, if McCain starts at corner for us then something really when wrong with Tank and Lippett. I hope they keep him in the slot or he'll get beat time after time outside.

You say this on what basis? McCain might just be better than either Tank or Lippett but neither of them are good in the slot.

There's nothing wrong with Tank - he should improve further this year. However, everybody always underestimates Bobby. Turns out he was a really really good 5th round Draft pick. Maybe he's not just a slot CB - maybe he has further upside and the place to challenge him is in Training Camp as a boundary CB. There is no harm in seeing him do more in that role and also help prepare other players for the slot position. Rumor has it that Bobby used to regularly excel in competition against one of the best WRs in the NFL - Jarvis Landry - the daily competition made both better (and as a result Bobby is one of Gase's favorite players). Do not be surprised when he gets his long term contract in the next few weeks - because the coaches and the GM love him. Also don't be fooled by the wacky hair that sticks up - that's part of his schtick. Listen to his answers in any of his interviews since joining the team. Bobby answers the questions seriously and like a professional. He is very serious about his football and his commitment to the Dolphins. Mark my words - do not underestimate Bobby McCain.

I think he'll get beat by all the bigger/taller WR's out there if he plays the island. I'd keep him in the slot but I guess time will tell.
