Dolphins lose Def cor

It may have been posted earlier but it was no surprise. Smith was given persmission to interview with the Texans when Capers became the Defensive guru. It was a given that he was a goner, even if he had not been hired.

IMO... Completely insignificant...

Texans trade HC Dom Capers to Miami Dolphins for DC Richard Smith. I think we might have made out well on this one.

I kinda got the feeling that Saban went after Capers with the DC position in mind anyway.

I'd even go as far as to say it is an upgrade for the team. I think we all know Dom Capers will be the DC now, whether he "officially" gets the title or not it is clear he will operating as 2nd in command next to Nick Saban himself when talking about running the defense.

Thanks for the post.

I don't think we "lost" a DC. We got a better one.

We just riped of Houston, they are even paying most of Capers contract because they have to pay him the differance between whatever his new job is paying and what he would have made as their hc. Its estimated that his deal with the Texans was worth 2.5 to 3 mill a year, we gave him a one year deal worth 300k and they had to pay the rest. (Acording to Len Pasquarelli) :evilmod:

No big loss. A technicality is the only reason why Capers doesn't have the DC title. After the 2006 season his contract is up from the Texans and he can get the official title as Defensive Coordinator.

Capers IS the DC, but he just doesn't have the title.

We won't even know that Smith is gone. In fact, Capers and Muschamp is way better then Smith and Muschamp. I really don't see why the Texans didn't hire Bates because I do believe that they showed quite a bit if interest in him earlier.

So that explains why he is a 'special assistant'. But IMO if our defense finishes top 5 this season, Dom will be getting offers for another HC job.
