The Miami Dolphins signed a backup running back on Monday. It doesn’t really matter who because, let’s face it, the Dolphins already have three of their running back spots filled with Frank Gore, Kenyan Drake and rookie Kalen Ballage so anyone joining the competition must know their odds of making the team are very long.

What matters is that in adding Jeremy Langford, the Dolphins are following a formula most past coaching staffs and personnel departments followed with relative little success. And the team is following a formula this coaching staff has followed with relative little success.

So, Langford will not be a "success" because he won't be a feature back. Apparently the author has a narrow definition of success

The author is Armando...so read into that what you will.

IT seems to me as if he doesn't understand needing a camp body, but he has only been covering the NFL for 28 years so he will eventually pick it up.

It's not just about making that team. It's about show casing your talent to the other 31 teams in the league as well.
Can't play in preseason if you aren't signed with a team. Injury occurs and now a team needs a back, and viola, they see you did well recently with Miami and at least bring you in for a workout.

Jay Cutler, Julius Thomas, Jermon Bushrod, Rey Maualuga, Senorise Perry, David Fales, Brock Osweiler, Akeem Spence, Daniel Thomas, Jason Jones, and Frank Gore off the top of my head.

Jay Cutler was a last second signing. The dude was retired. Surprise surprise he didn't pan out.
Julius Thomas was given to us virtually free. Should of gone after more talent at TE instead of just relying on him.
Bushrod, IMO did an ok job for playing a new spot like that late in his career. Left tackle for 9 years and then is asked to play RG.
The rest are just role players, except for maybe Gore who may share the load/be a short yardage back.

Langford is just a camp body. Are you telling me we should be disappointed if an August signee doesn't make the team/make an impact?

It’s transactions like these that give guys like Salguero something to write about. He should count his lucky stars.
