Dolphins | Team makes no progress with Frerotte

Jeff Darlington, of the Palm Beach Post, reports agent Marvin Demoff said Friday, March 3, that no progress has been made in an attempt to restructure Miami Dolphins QB Gus Frerotte's contract. Without a restructured deal, or without a new CBA by 6 p.m. Sunday, March 5, Frerotte could become a casualty of the salary cap because he accounts for nearly $7 million of cap space. Should Frerotte get cut that would leave the Dolphins in dire need of a veteran quarterback through free agency. Such a situation could limit the Dolphins' ability to spend in other areas.

We can always cut Gus and then sign him cheaply later on when nobody else wants him.

Ever heard of, be carefull what you wish for? Hold your horses till he's gone. There has to be something better for them to pull the trigger. He's good as gone, if Sam couldn't get a deal done, Gus is done. Unless......

I Love the offseason.

I wish we could keep him.....as a back up only tho but it won't happen...I just hope we get Brees.

Ozzy rules!!

7 Million? I thought I read somewhere that Gus was consuming somewhere around 1.1 million worth of cap space.

Why in the hell did we ever sign this guy to a deal that would escalate to such a high number by his 2nd year without a rookie to groom? That's just bad business.

gus and progress are only associated when gus is leaving the team.

Well I can't wait until the man is cut from the Fins because he is so limited as a QB, but I also worry some about being in a position that we don't have an established starter or young gun set to start. Gus wants to be considered a starting QB in the NFL, but plays too much like a career backup that he is...at any rate, with a $7 mil cap hit, he has to go....or re-sign at backup pay.

I'm not sure where that came from either, but he is due about $4.4 mil in playing bonuses from last season due to being our starter with a total count of about $4.8 mil total against the cap. Even if the $7 mil figure in that article is right, it's waaaaay to much to be paying a backup quality QB...

EDIT: My numbers came from our Salary cap page on Finheaven...
