Dolphins' Mike Sherman not cause of poor offense

Just because you have draft picks starting does not mean these draft picks are any good. It just means they are filling spots. Miami has battled this for years (see Koa Misi as an example). From the looks of Buffalo's results the past decade, many must be merely filling spots.

The measuring stick is how many impact players that play at the top tier levels are starting.

Yeah I get going off draft status is flawed initially because coaches will get tied to their picks. But it is still a measure of talent. So how often and what has been invested on the O and D and you will see if the talent is there. for example. on Bills they have 4 UDFAs and 1 7th rounder starting on Offense.

they have 1 UDFA playing signifcant time on defense (dolphin killer Robey).

So when you look at the Picks (albiet some signed in UFA and Trades) there is more talent on the defense than offense. I just wonder what that breakdown on Fins is. I may do that today.

Did not read, don't care to its bull **** the guy sucks and I seen with my own eyes the result of the O and the Def. They both were garbage.

its a game of inches and you better damn well believe the occasional rollout and misdirection would keep a defense honest and get that first down when you need it!

Perkins is so full of crap! It helps your Oline too!

just because sherman sucks doesn't mean this would be an offense of probowlers otherwise.

On 2nd and long the one thing you don't want is a sack, and with the OL as poor as it was running sometimes on 2nd and long isn't a bad call....the thing about play calling is if it works its a great call, if it doesn't then you should have called this.....if Clay doesn't get that first down on 4-6 against NE Sherman would have been killed for calling that play

OC are easy scapegoats, to me its always on the players, execute the play.....

RT fumbles to easy when he gets hit, you don't want your franchise QB running a read option, nothing good comes from it, ask RG3
I don't like to question play-calling from any OC. To most fans if it works it's a great call if not he's an idiot.
I do question things like adjustments, creativity and general game-planning which I think Sherman is lacking big time.

Failure to get fourth and inches multiple times
Failure to use Thigpen as a receiver until late in the season
Failure to create mismatches all season
By being medicore failed to get Gillislee enough carries to evaluate him for next season.
No where near enough called QB runs.
Entire staff failed to address LT until they thought RT had been power slammed enough

Fair point, but a lot goes into creativity and adjustments, I think this is were talent comes in, if the players you have are not good doing certain things than you can't do certain things which limits your abilities, this is what Belicheat does the best, if the QB is weak at throwing the side line routes he will double the middle of the field and make the QB throw those long side line throws....

The only two I would agree with is not using Thigpen on offense and not addressing the LT position in the offseason especially when we found out the mind set of Martin. , Gillislee had to earn his way onto the field and he does that in practice, can't blame them on 4th down when you OL sucks, not a big fan on my QB running especially when he fumbles a lot, I think the mismatches were there we just didnt execute them especially with the long ball.

That is what a good coach does, BB is better than anybody but we should see some of it from our coach.
Again, Sherman is lacking in this area, he doesn't seem to use his players properly.

u can spin it however u want but I watched the games and Sherman sucks. there's no flow to his play calling. its like he doesnt look at the down and distance. 3rd and 7, let's run a draw out of shotgun with slow ass Daniel Thomas. 3rd and 5, let's run a wr screen to Wallace. he doesn't call plays to keep defenses guessing. I can call out a lot of plays before the balls snapped so defenses and coaches can as well. Sherman needs to go.

the only thing I agree with is he did have his hands tied a little bit due to the o line and non existent running game but still he needs to make the best out of what he's got and get the most from the players he has to work with.

Sherman sucks, he can take his son in law and get the hell out ta Miami.

Sherman is absolutely terrible he needs to go, period end of story. You'd be an idiot to convince yourself he should stay because "Lack of talent" that's horse **** yes the line sucked but a good offensive coordinator would adjust accordingly which he never does he's boring...... The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting diff results that's Sherman in a nutshell and he cost us games cause of it.

Anyone that thinks we have decent talent on O is mistaken. Ireland has no eye for offensive talent. None. He has never drafted a single playmaker.

QB - C Tanny is average, cant hit a deep ball if his life (or the playoffs) depended on it and has really poor pocket awareness.
RB - F Suck at running and are even worse at blocking
OL - F Worst in the NFL
TE - C- Clay is OK
WR - C+ Hartline and Wallace are very limited in what they can do

And rightfully so, that was a perfect example of the retarded **** Sherman has been calling all ****ing year, and he got bailed out by Clay going superman.

Oh, and those sweeps to Daniel Thomas for -2 yards that Sherman just LOVED to call were always fun.

OP's article makes a few good points, I do agree that lack of talent and lack of an O-Line is a HUGE detriment to an offensive scheme, no matter who's scheme it is.

But the fact remains, Sherman could have done a little more with what he had. The "2 plays" of QB rollout, and screen passes, are not just 2 plays a game. That can be a setup for many a drive, many a 3rd down conversion, many a red zone option. He didn't adjust at halftime enough to at least make an effort to outcoach defenses. He kept Tannehill in the pocket so much that defenses knew just where to find him -- they know he's not going to scramble out or rollout. That's not a thing we do. I don't particularly remember seeing many passes to Lamar Miller, to Dion Sims, to Egnew.

And the Go-Go cadence, or Pouncey tipping off plays...I don't even want to go there. Sherman should have identified these issues and cleaned them up.

i believe one of the problems with this offense was the lack of a good slot receiver after Gibson got hurt it went south, say as you might about clay he did good things, but he was invisible the last few games,a true te is needed
