Dolphins Mindful of losing Capers!

"The Dolphins likely won't tab a coach from the college ranks, the source said. That seemingly would eliminate USC's Pete Carroll and Georgia Tech's Chan Gailey, who reportedly will interview with the Pittsburgh Steelers on the weekend.
And despite the buzz surrounding the University of Florida's national title, Gators coach Urban Meyer has not been mentioned as a candidate nor has he been contacted by the Dolphins"

"Owner Wayne Huizenga also has indicated he likely won't grant total organizational control to the next coach - something Nick Saban was given. "

I feel much better about this process already! :dolphins:

so hiring a young guy is still in play

cool news

It's a very telling article. Based on the information and deductive reasoning, we have to be persuing only offensive options or Capers himself for the head coaching position. My rational is that anyone on the defensive side of the ball that Miami would have been interested in would likely not be retaining Capers. It will be interesting to know who the five finalists are. Good article!

I LOVED THAT ARTICLE. I learned 3 important points that I wasn't 100% about.

1. The Dolphins intend on doing everything they can to retain Capers
2. A college coach is a longshot
3. Total control is not a given.

I like all these points.
And if you consider all three it makes Pete Carroll unlikely or at least a negative because he would likely negate all 3 points made.

dont believe everything you read in these tabloids

I understand that it is 50% speculation and educated guesses. But Bedard has more inside information than the rest of us, so I'll just be optimistic.

Why couldnt Capers have gotten the 2 year deal and Meathead the 1? :(
Still, I hope we really go after him. Good article. Also, I would think that to have a good chance of retaining Capers, we will need to have a coach in place by then. Gives us plenty of time, but nice to see a possible deadline for that.
VERY glad to hear that Carroll and Gailey are longshots, they scare the crap outta me.

One downside to the Dolphins' thorough search, which is a week old and is expected to last for at least another week, is the position in which it has put the team's assistants.

The assistants are under contract, but the next head coach might not retain them. The number of possible assistant coaching positions will get smaller as each of the NFL's other coach searches - Arizona, Pittsburgh and Oakland - comes to an end, and it's possible the Dolphins will be the last team to name a head coach. If the assistants aren't retained, there may be no positions available when they are let go. The Dolphins then would be forced to pay them.

No Mularkey! go away

I think the article said MM had a 2 year contract. The status of him being retained however is (hopefully) doubtfull.

I wouldn't mind having Capers be our next head coach.......he wants a shot at the big really bad, I think he will do well.
