Here is my revised Dolphins Mock, some major changes underway with a good balance of offensive and defensive players. I predict Jason Taylor goes to the Jags for a second rounder just prior to the draft. Thoughts?
1. Vernon Gholston, OLB, Ohio State
A change of heart here, I doubt Long really wants to come so cheap and with Gholston next in line he could come much cheaper, this will spell the end of Jason Taylor and give Parcells a Lawrence Taylor type player….one can dream.
2. a) James Hardy, WR, Indiana
Sparano has recently spoken of the need of a need for a #1 receiver and Hardy definitely meets the height requirements, he could be a Randy Moss or a Plaxico Burress and really help Beck improve his redzone play.
2. b) Curtis Lofton, ILB, Oklahoma
A very stocky build at 6 foot 245 pounds he is a perfect ILB for the 3-4.
2. c) Carl Nicks, OT, Nebraska
The trade for Jason Taylor gives us this selection, Nicks has a big body and can play both tackle positions, Nicks will provide instant stability and although I like Duane Brown and Anthony Collins I don’t see them being able to step in from day 1.
3. Tracy Porter, CB, Indiana
Another Hoosier, Porter is a solid pick up here and could come in as a dime corner and develop into a cornerstone of our secondary. If he is off the board I think Tyvon Branch is a solid selection
4. John Carlson, TE, Notre Dame
Tight ends tend to slide on draft day and Carlson brings a great combination of soft hands and blocking ability which Parcells covets. Remember he did select Notre Dame Tight end Anthony Fasano while with the Cowboys.
6. a) Letroy Guion, DL, Florida State
A raw, local talent, he could develop into a 3-4 end or bulk up and become a nose.
6. b) Matt Flynn, QB, LSU
IMO he is my favorite second day QB in this class, he shows great leadership, has played tough competion, makes great decisions and can make plays on the run and outside the pocket. Whoever gets him is getting a steal and a future starter.
7. a) Tim Hightower, RB, Richmond
Another steal, a highly touted small school prospect will give us depth at the running back position. Although many consider are running backs a deep position keep in mind Ronnie has a history of injuries, Ricky has proven extremely unreliable and Booker is just a solid change of pace back.
7. b) Shawn Murphy, G, Utah St.
One of my favorite guard prospects, he has a big body and will compete with Mormino for the starting guard position. This is still a position in need of an upgrade.
Let me also mention I think we will make a minimum of 2 trades on draft day and potentially as many as 4. Weather we trade up or down there will be alot of movement, likely not with the #1 but with the others.
