Dolphins moving from 3-4 to pressure-based 4-3 defense

Wake should be fine on run downs, the Colts rarely had players with talent like Starks and Soliai eating blockers for Freeney to make plays in the run game. Wake is the last guy i'm worried about in this defense.

I think a healthy, in shape Dansby will benefit tremendously from the attention placed on the front 4 but i'm worried for Misi and Burnett. I was shocked Miami didn't draft more linebackers but when you switch schemes on both sides of the ball there are so many holes you can fill with a single draft.

As far as LB's go, I hope we try to give Kaddu some time

I don't like the fit of A lot of our players in this new Sceme

Wake, should transition but will be run at a lot by opposing O's

Are DT situation is all right PS is a run plugger but won't bring any pass rush, Odrick is much more a 3-4 DE than a DT(I bet we try and trade him at the deadline or next offseason, he's just not a fit) and Starks is Avg

we also have a big hole at LE

Overall there are going to be a lot of growing pains and I don't agree with the switch of schemes

Once upon a time Starks was our best DE, if Odrick struggles at DE, I see them switching spots.
I'm also a little uneasy with giving up on the 3-4. All we had to do was draft another LB to complement Wake and the D would be good enough.

I don't like either at DE, think they are both DT's in a 4-3

Completely agree, i am not a fan of this switch. Our D was good last year and a piece here and there from being better. I was really hoping we could have pulled someone off that Packer staff to keep this 3-4 going

It's true that all defensive packages emphasize pressure, but the difference in whether they work or not is whether they have the personnel to make their scheme work correctly. It's not that teams that don't get a lot of sacks don't emphasize pressure, it's that their personnel/packages are not a good fit. The most important aspect of our new scheme isn't that it emphasizes pressure, it's that it incorporates a flexibility that can best take advantage of the skills our players have.
Right... I'm just not seeing what we really get with this. As others have pointed out Wake already rushes from the end. I don't see how we get that much more pressure out of this and if we don't we still are questionable with LB and safety coverage.

I'm not concerned about how well Wake will get to the QB in a 4 man front on passing downs. I'm more interested in seeing how well he does against the run in a 4 man front. I think the comparison to Freeney is a good one since everyone knew the Colts couldn't stop the run worth a crap and that team had to play with a lead for Freeney to be effective and Freeney has 20 lbs on Wake.

This is a big concern for me also. Wake did fine in the 3-4, but I am concerned that he will not hold up against the run.

On the other side, Odrick may be really good against the run, but lack against the pass.

I dont think it really matters, we went 4 down linemen alot on passing downs...so Odrick at LDE makes alot of sense if your talking about stopping the run first. A great defense stops the run first, even if its a passing team, because it limits what the offense can do. Odrick plays the run and rushes passer well.

But everyone is focused on the DL here and I think alot of sacks will come from LB's and DB's.

I think they'll be pretty flexible... just like last season where you might have seen them jump into a 4-3 at times, the same will probably happen with the team jumping into a 3-4 when they see fit.

this crap is old news(moving to a 4-3). some dude named enduro told you that months ago. He even told you who miami was going to draft for the last 2 years #1. I may have some more off season breaking news soon. stay tuned.

fapfapfapfap

I CAN NOT wait.

Then we will be in trouble

Odrick was excellent at end of year and IMO will have no trouble as LDE in 4-3. When you look at the 4 of Wake, Starks, Solai, Odrick it is potentially devastating. I also like McDaniel and think he is very underrated. Ill be honest I dont expect much from Vernon this year. Would not mind Misi used as DE on nickel packages. Im concerned more about him at LB than anyone on defensive line.

I just want to say in our final 10 games we only allowed 17 points per game. A defense that no one talked about but was quite possibly the best defense during the final 10 weeks of the season.

Pittsburgh's defense allowed 12.5 pts per game the last 10 games of last season
San Francisco allowed 13.2 pts average the last 10 games of the season
Houston allowed 15.4 pts the last 10 games
