Stats show that a 4th and 1 and 3rd and 1 is converted more often when a QB sneak is utilized rather than running a back or passing.
Tom Brady has actually converted more than 90% of his short runs for 1st downs over his career. Like to see us do it more often.
Ryan hasn't even attempted 20 in 4 years of playing. We need to add that to the playbook to keep defenses honest. I think he could excel at it if given the chance.

Also interesting was that the Dolphins were one of the few teams that was better at 3rd and 2 by passing than running. Guess that could also be an indictment on the poor line play. Anyway pretty interesting read and analyses on short yardage situations.

Our line sucked last year at getting any sort of push in a short yardage or goal-to-go situation. Don't know how many times Lamar or Damien Williams ran into a wall of Dolphins lineman for no gain, if it wasn't a loss on the play.

Another reason for Pouncey and Ryan to make a play on their own. It only takes 2 players maybe 3 to be successful with the QB sneak. Why keep counting on the whole line to be in sync when that rarely happens?

Just send him between pouncey and turner. Not the Dallas Thomas side (thinking back to last year).

No thanks tannehill always tops in league in fumbles

Hmmm...

2015 top 5 QB overall fumbles/fumbles lost: 1. Blake Bortles 14/5 2. Matt Ryan 12/5 3. Eli Manning 11/4 4. Ryan Tannehill 10/3 5. Marcus Mariota 10/6
2014 Top 5: Andrew Luck, Jay Cutler, Russell Wilson, Josh Mccown, Aaron Rodgers
2013: Stafford, RG3, Russell Wilson, Peyton Manning, Fitzpatrick
2012(rookie year for Ryan): Rivers, Sanchez, RG3, Vick, Luck (ryan was 11th)

Yep he is always in the top of the league =/

You might want to look at that list again.

In 2012, Tannehill had 9 fumbles. Although Sporting Charts had him at 11th, he was actually tied with 3 other QBs for 8th.

In 2013, Tannehill once again had 9 fumbles. This time he was tied with Tennessee's Ryan Fitzpatrick for 5th.

In 2014 Tannehill, must like the number 9 because that's exactly how many fumbles he had. Those 9 fumbles tied him with 3 other QBs for 7th.

In 2015 Tannehill had a career high 10 fumbles which tied him for 4th in the NFL.

I knew what his numbers were along lines of total fumbles, lost, own recovered, wasn't sure how they stacked up compared to rest of league so went and pulled up the charts(refuse to go to NFL site, find that awful and clustered with nonsense tweet highlights). When somebody says he is always in the top of the league with fumbles, top to me is a 1 through 5 range, no matter how each person counts fumbles compared to fumbles lost/recovered, you can't say oh don't want him sneaking because he is "the top." If you do so, then looking at list people won't want Wilson, Rodgers, Luck, etc.. sneaking, refusing to accept fact that hey **** **** happens when you go head on into 300lb+ guys.

If a person was to say oh no thanks on sneaks because "________" <--- insert legit reason there, then okay to each their own, but that "top in league" nonsense made me laugh because with that way of thinking, no QB other then Almighty Brady should ever even think about a sneak.

That is precisely why the Dolphins need to use the QB sneak more. As Brady has proved throughout his career, you don't always need a good push from the OL to convert a short yardage situation.

The Dolphins only ran the ball 20 times on 3rd or 4th and short, converting 11 of those attempts.

Just to compare other teams in the AFCE

Buffalo ran the ball 30 times and converted 21.
New England ran the ball 32 times and converted 23.
New York ran the ball 29 times and converted 19.

Third or fourth and a short yard is fine for a qb sneak. If it's a long yard, somewhere between one and two yards form the first down I wouldn't feel that confident with none of the Dolphins interior linemen being road graders.

Those stats show Miami was close to 50% on converting those short yardage runs, which is much less than the other three teams you list. Seems to suggest Miami wasn't good running in those situations so how do you use those numbers to suggest they should have run more? Not bashing your thought, just want clarity of you perspective.

I was just piggy-backing on what the OP posted.

Tyrod Taylor ran the ball 9 times on 3rd or 4th and short.
Brady ran the ball 10 times on 3rd or 4th and short converting 9 of them.
Fitzpatrick ran the ball 9 times on 3rd or 4th and short converting all 9 attempts.
Tannehill ran the ball 3 times on 3rd or 4th and short.
