One returning starter and that's Reshad Jones. IAQ is the starting FS but I have heard little about him. I'm anxious to see him in game action.

I think we can get by with McCain and Thomas as the nickle corners. Seems the team believes the same or they would have picked up Leon Hall. I think McCain will just get better with more snaps. I'm hoping one of these unknown players step up over the course of the next 4 weeks.

Sounds like Xavien Howard is getting close to a return. Maybe by the 2nd PS game. That would be a huge boost. Supposedly running at 3/4 speed today.

Rashaan Melvin: 6'2 193
Al Louis-Jean 6'2 195
Chimdi Chekwa 6'1 191
Tony Lippett 6'2 192
Xavien Howard 6'0 201

Lots of bodies but who will step up? Anyone? We still have a chance to find someone after cuts. This one is on TannenGrier.

Gase praised IAQ's IQ recently, said you can bet money he will be in the right position. That was good to hear. Michael Thomas was getting early reps at FS but IAQ has seemed to be the guy at FS now and on the depth chart.

Nickel I feel ok about, think we have two guys who can compete there and have success.

Maxwell has been great, great gamble and so far it is paying off.

Elephant in the room is the 2nd CB. Howard/Lippet . . . There will be growing pains for sure. Pressure upfront will be huge.

Looking at the match-ups this season....Our nickle corners will be tested right out of the gate vs Doug Baldwin.

4. Doug Baldwin, WR, Seattle Seahawks

Doug Baldwin showed last season the kind of production slot receivers can put up, beyond simply catch volume. Despite playing 80 percent of his snaps as a slot receiver, he notched 14 touchdowns, which tied for best in the NFL among all receivers. He caught 78.8 percent of the passes thrown his way, dropping just two passes all season, and was more than just a short-gain receiver, averaging 13.7 yards per reception. Baldwin has quietly become one of the league’s best receivers, but we just don’t admit it because he is dismissed as “just a slot WR.”

Week 2 vs NE:

9. Julian Edelman, WR, New England Patriots

The impact of Julian Edelman on the New England offense last season was profound. Despite Tom Brady losing weapons regularly, it wasn’t until Edelman went down that the quarterback’s play began to suffer. Without Edelman last season, Brady’s completion percentage dropped 1.5 percent, his average per completion fell by 1.4 yards, his passer rating fell by 11.4 points, and he threw 14 touchdowns to five interceptions compared to the 27 he threw against the same five turnovers with Edelman in the lineup.

Week 3 vs Cleveland:

Terrell Pryor and Corey Coleman have been listed as starters on the outside with Andrew Hawkins in the slot.

We will also play Tennessee and Rishard Mathews in week 5. He has already been listed at the starting WR opposite 5th round pick, Tajae Sharpe. Kendall Wright being No. 3 in the slot.

Edelman is gonna eat bobby McCain for lunch...or Michael Thomas if we are dumb enough to do that

still can't let gronk beat us so it is what it is

at least we are getting garapolo

Hopefully even the nickle corners will be playing more aggressive this season with the press. I never could figure out why we played "off" with these quick passing teams like NE.

new England will just line the slot up off the line to get him free releases...they aren't dumb like we have been in the past in terms of adjustments etc

bobby McCain better stay more attached out of cuts this year...2 way goes and separation out of cuts in the slot easy pickins

I agree though you rough up Edelman or the guy they just signed from buffalo who didn't get off press worth a damn when he was here whenever possible...same for the other little wr they have used to play for st Louis...

Just get Kiko to knock the snot out of him at the beginning of the game. Lay his arse out!

Well, Edelman hurt himself again today....besides, it will be Garroppolo trying to get him the ball in the first meeting.

I'm curious to see how they handle the o-line this year. Dave DeGuglielmo was fired and they brought back retired Dante Scarnecchia to coach them up.

LT Nate Solder
LG Joe Thuney (rookie)
C Bryan Stork (missed half of last year)
RG Tre Jackson
RT Sebastian Vollmer (still on PUP - broken leg IR 2015)

I can't stand Martellius Bennett (or his brother) but we will probably see a lot of 2 TE sets this year.

Edelman got hurt at practice today, apparently threw his helmet in disgust...lets see how this plays out...we need to use the Giants Super Bowl formula.....pressure the passer and ease the pressure on our CB's
