Some are advocating small steps, others a complete re-build...

The Miami Dolphins have a bad habit of making a splash in free agency. This year they should try something a bit different and just role with what they have and make small adjustments to the roster.[/h]The idea of making small adjustments isn’t new and when the reference is made some positions need to have a major change. For example both guard positions.
Outside of that would Miami be better served to let some contracts just run out?

Personally I have been back and forth on this issue. In some regards it would make sense to cut some losses now and just eat the salary and rebuild the defense.
There is a lot to be said about cutting Earl Mitchell, Cam Wake, and

Your thoughts...? :ponder:

reload would imply we have had something to reload. Rebuild and use our best parts we have

In My mind its a bit of both...

We need to reload the offensive line (will need to begin the process of rebuilding this unit next year) and Target a couple of Late Draft Picks that can be developed. We should do our best to keep Miller and add a stop gap G that can at the least compete every game. I would cut Dallas Thomas today!!! Can we trade him to the Jets or Bills - Oh how perfect that would be...

We need to rebuild the D. I don't think the rebuild of the defense will happen this year. We will make additions but it will take two drafts to get the ball rolling. Saying a big NO to any high paid FA additions this year... I say dump Grimes and Mitchel - Continue to try to restructure Wake Don't bat an eye if another team wants to overpay OV and Draft D (MLB, DT, DE and CB). Try to capture Mario Williams, Pacman Jones and get a serviceable MLB.

That's just what I want to see this year.

This questions reminds me of the epic quote from Coach McKay who was the first coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After a very bad Buccaneers loss a reporter asked him what he thought of his team's execution. McKay replied "I'm in favor of it!"

The phins need much better production on the edges, against the run and pass. That is a rebuild area bc Wake is old and Vernon is not good enough.

LBs are also a rebuild except for Jenkins.

Rcb and fs are jyst plain wholes that need to be filled.

How do you reload when you need 9 new starters on D?

Yeah, 6-10 teams don't reload. But it's hard to re-build when you just have your regular complement of draft picks (plus an extra 7th woohoo!), and are at the bottom of the league in terms of cap space. What we really SHOULD do is take a mulligan in 2016, not restructure Suh leaving more cap room in future years, not sign big name free agents for 2016, get a couple comp pick, and save the money to be aggressive in free agency next year. We will suck in 2016 if we do this, but then we will be picking towards the top of two straight drafts, and if they hit on their picks we would be ready for a serious playoff run in 2017. But we always throw everything into every season, and that's a sure way to continue the mediocrity.

If you lost Vernon and Miller...it would be "reloading" to replace them....the guards, linebackers and some secondary holes need to be "rebuilt"....they are "vacant" land that hasn't had a "foundation" since hurricane "Philbin" leveled them.

I still think this team flat out quit early on last season (pre Philbin firing). We have huge holes, granted (LB, OL, CB, etc) but it remains to be seen if this truly a 6-10 team. Will the new coaching change anything?

I'd make mostly cost effective moves in free agency and rely heavily on the draft.

Would like to see the team bring in some secondary help like Adam Jones and Reggie Nelson. That would take pressure off the young players in the secondary. I think they could come pretty cheaply and they know Vance Joseph's system. I'd also bring back Paul Solai, who could serve as the space eater inside and rotate with Jordan Phillips.

I see the team losing Olivier Vernon in free agency so my one big spend would be on Danny Trevathan to man the middle for Miami. I have some concern that he played in a 3-4 and the Dolphins have been killed by not finding scheme fits.

The days of rebuilding in the NFL are long gone. Coaches aren't given years to turn things around. It's a "year to year" league

... it remains to be seen if this truly a 6-10 team ...

I thought the results of the season stated quite eloquently that the 2015 Dolphins were a 6-10 team. After all, you are what your record says you are.
