Some members of the Miami Dolphins' offensive line on Saturday night said they'd need to watch film to understand exactly what went wrong during their team's 17-13 defeat against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers here at Raymond James Stadium.
But Dolphins coach Tony Sparano didn't need to dim the lights and re-watch anything. At least he didn't to offer the simplest diagnoses of his offensive line's performance against the Bucs.
"Wasn't good enough," Sparano said.
That much was obvious. The Dolphins' offensive line offered few running lanes on Saturday night for Reggie Bush and Daniel Thomas, who combined for 15 yards on 12 carries.
The run blocking was bad. The pass protection might have been worse.
Chad Henne suffered through three sacks. After he left the game early in the third quarter, the offensive line — backups and reserves by that point — allowed backup quarterback Matt Moore to be sacked twice more.
If there was one positive from the line's performance, it might have been this: The poor pass blocking allowed Henne to show off his newfound improvisational skills. He sometimes successfully dodged defenders, bought himself more time and completed passes down the field.
Outside of that, though, the positives were few.
"We took a step back," said Richie Incognito, the Dolphins' left guard. "We showed last week [against the Carolina Panthers] that we can be a physical front, and then we come out today and [have] miscues up front and I definitely think we took a step back."
