Dolphins Offseason Thread (Mandatory Mini-Camp 6/10 - 6/12)

One of Shula's big problems was $$$, as in the salary cap and Dan Marino. Dan's salary's sucked the life out of the team, they had the biggest star but couldn't afford a supporting cast to put the team over the top. The proof is in the rings, or lack there in. At differing times we had killer offenses and no defense, or a good defense and no running game. With a quick strike offense and no running game the Killer B's had to play 2/3's of the game. They couldn't make a stop when they were gassed and needed one.

I may be wrong but I think he was the gm too. At least heavily involved or in charge.

But either way how long would it take you to realize I need to give this qb who absolutely deserves a championship a run game and defense around him?

I think Shula was pretty clueless with it. Which I find inexcusable

Indicators of how Shula was truly clueless at personnel evaluation was Eric Kumerow where is relied on the BLESTO ratings (never saw him play).

Then Ken Obrien was drafted ahead of Marino it was reported that he actually asked who is that guy? Whether Obrien was good QB or not, not knowing his name shocked me.

I imagine there was a lot more as well.

You got me curious @Etuoo33 , so I did a quick look at the cap back then. '96 was really the only year it was really out of whack, cap was $40,753,000 and Dan was at $9,210,000. Dan's cap % by year (cap started in '94) -
'94 - 7.5%
'95 - 10.5%
'96 - 22%
'97 - 9%
'98 - 9.6%
'99 - 11.4%

Today's highest paid guys are all over 20%, crazy to think Dan made less in a 17 year career than what they make in a year. Of course that '95 number should be a little higher if you count the money made off that little insider trading deal with Huizenga on the Republic stock :chuckle:

It had nothing to do with Gase. The reason the Bills have owned us is Josh Allen. When a team has an elite QB it becomes very difficult to defeat. If we had one, even with McDaniel or Flores we would have done way better than we did against the Bills tha last 7 years. I have not seen Tua on that level even when healthy. Hopefully he will be someday but my hopes are very low. And now the league is full of elite QBs with Jayden Daniels, CJ Stroud and Bo Nix all cappable of joining the top tier list in which Tua was never included.
lol… You’re joking, right?

Mahomes, this year, has a cap hit of 11%. Tua is at 14%. Josh Allen has a cap hit of 13%. Burrow is at 16%. I didn’t look at anyone else. Where are you getting this over 20%?
