From reading the countless threads on our O-line, this is something I've been wondering. Our #1 option for center is LeCharles Bently. What after that? Move Hadnot to center? How about Mangold out of Ohio. What is his projection? If he's there in any round after the 1st, I would love to pick him up. Thoughts?

Hadnot played Center a good bit last season after McKinney went down, so yeah I say so. Mangold would be a great pickup, he should go anywhere from late first to early-mid second. Mike Degory would also be a good option in the later rounds.

Boy, if he's there in the 2nd....

I think that would be a great pickup. Get an OT in the 1st (Winston or Justice), and our OLine would be cooking. Of course we DO have other needs.....

Mangold really stuck out when I was watching the Senior Bowl practice. He had Excellent technique and was handing tackles with ease.

Bentley can play either center or guard, equally well. He would do more to help our OL, IMO, than anyone else we could sign as a FA or draft. With Hadnot also being able to either spot, we could try both combinations to see which one was more effective. I would guess we would want the better player in the pivot, so that would put Bentley there.
If we signed Bentley and also drafted Mangold in the 2nd, not likely to be there, then there would be reason to place Bentley at guard to get the best 5 in the starting lineup.
I would also not mind if we drafted Greg Eslinger somewhere after the 1st. Some say he isn't heavy or big enough to be a good center for us. That he would only do well on a team like Denver or Atlanta. I do not agree with that. He weighs as much as Kevin Mawae. 'Nuff said.

I like Mangold...a natural leader for a O-line that has none....Not a bad step.

Bentley wants to stay at center and quite frankly it'd be nuts of the team to spend that money on Bentley as a RG.

Carey/Hadnot/Bentley/James/Draft Pick, Alabi, Vet Insurance

With McIntosh on his way out the big concern should be that LT spot. Hence why most teams think the phins will go after Winston.

How I really wanted was Hutchinson then we could draft some great LT in the 1st it would worked out so perfect.
LT-Marcus McNeal, Winston Justice, or Jon Scott
LG-Hutchinson
C-Hadnot
RG-James
RT-Carey

LT-draft:Winston Justice, Jonathan Scott, Daryn Colledge, Eric Winston.

LG-draft: Taitusi Lutui, Davin Joseph, Charles Spencer, Rob Sims.

C-free agency: LeCharles Bentley.

RG- Jeno James, Rex Hadnot.

RT- Vernon Carey.

If we drafted Justice and Mangold was there when we picked in the 2nd would you take him? Just a thought. I mean I know if ( big If ) both those guys became good starters that would really help out our Offense. I know that a huge if and it also depends on who else falls too. However It might be nice. Then maybe hope jason Allen falls to the 3rd. Now that I look back that alot of hoping and falling.

Well last year he really high but he has dropped cause of some issues. This is from ESPN.

Strengths: Is an experienced center prospect with great height and adequate bulk. Has the frame to get bigger. Is an intelligent center who does a great job with line calls. A leader and hard-worker. Knows the angles and shows great awareness as a run blocker and in pass pro. He is efficient. Plays with a mean streak. He has good overall strength. Will rarely lose a one-on-one battle if he has locked on. He has great experience and good technique in pass pro. Has a wide wingspan and is difficult to get around as a pass rusher. A natural knee bender. Will do a good job of picking up stunts and blitzes. Is extremely aware. He also has great durability.

Weaknesses: Could stand to add some bulk. Is almost too tall for the OC position and he sometimes can become a problem for his QB to see over. He has marginal speed. Is quicker than fast. Will play with leverage in pass pro but runs high on pulls and traps. Does not have good speed as a downfield run blocker. Also lacks ideal athleticism. Body control and balance are below average. He will get caught lunging too often when trying to hit the moving target. The more space he's in the less effective he becomes. He lacks experience on pulls and traps.

Overall: Degory took over as a starter during his freshman season in 2002 and started 38-consecutive games leading up to his senior season in 2005. Degory has great size, toughness, intelligence and strength. He has been a durable starter that has improved with each year of experience. He also has been one of the most reliable and efficient centers in the nation over the course of the last two seasons. However, his lack of elite athletic ability puts a lower ceiling on his NFL potential than some other centers that he has out-performed on the collegiate level. Degory projects as a second-or-third round prospect in 2006.

thanks for the info, if he is still around in the 3rd it may not be a bad pick. I have always heard that he is a hard worker. Combine that will being intellegent maybe he can be coached up. If anyone can work with someones weaknesses it is Houch.

yeah and his biggest problem is strength so hopefully he can get stronger. I am a gator fan so I don't have a problem with it. :D

I think it's hard to predict who we will get to fill what position.

I dont think it's a good idea to pidgeonhole X player as Y position. Virtually everyone on the roster is someone who has experience at another position. McIntosh, Carey, and McDougle have experience at Guard. Smith and James have experience at Tackle. Hadnot has experience at Center.

Hudson Houck confounds things a little bit more, too. He taught everyone on the roster during training camp how to play multiple positions. The Offensive goal appears to have an emphasis on less mobility and more pure power and drive blocking, especially with Tackles, so we might end up with someone who might be asked to play a different position then they would on other teams.

Look at Vernon Carey, for example. Alot of people considered him a Guard, not a Tackle. Not only did he play RT for us, but he ended up playing LT as well.

There is a certain archetype Miami seems to like. Virtually everyone on the roster is 320 pounds plus. They dont have to be 320 pounds coming out of college, but their game has to be suited to it, and they have to have the frame for it.

Dont expect us to draft Eric Winston, for example.
