Receiver Wes Welker is visiting with the Patriots today at Gillette Stadium. In addition, a source close to the situation indicated that there have been conversations between the Patriots and Dolphins, opening the possibility that Welker could be traded.

Because Welker is a restricted free agent, and the Patriots are visiting with him today, it was assumed in some circles that the team would sign him to an offer sheet.

At this point, it seems the Patriots are exploring all their options.

While the Patriots could still sign Welker to an offer sheet, don't rule out the possibility of a trade.

Maybe this means they don't want to surrender a 2nd round pick. Could Miami be sucked into a trade for a 3rd?

It's on them. Personally, I'd make em pull the trigger if they want him that bad.

Though a trade could open up the possibility that we get one of the Patriots 1st round picks. Instead of a straight up two for Welker, how about Welker and a 4th rounder for a Patriots 1st rounder.

I dont think any of that matters, if the Patriots and Wes signed the offer sheet, then they would have to give up a 2nd rounder, no if and or buts, We would have no reason to even consider a 3rd unless they are trying to ship a player as well. They have no choice in this situation if the sheet has been signed.

id jump up and down like a monkey!

finally it seems our front office is working well...we finally have leverage in a deal

Depends on which of their first rounders.

Asante Samuel is the only Patriot who I'd have any interest in. But **** that, if they want Welker then they have to sign him and surrender the 2nd, which he isn't worth.

Dan Pires, of The Standard-Times, reports the offer sheet the New England Patriots signed restricted free agent WR Wes Welker (Dolphins) is a seven-year, $38 million offer, according to sources close to the situation. The Patriots would have to give up a second-round draft pick to the Miami Dolphins should the Dolphins decline to match the offer.

They already signed the offer sheet.

If they want to make a trade...it is not to upgrade the trade for us guys.

it is to screw us any way possible.

If I am Mueller...I hang up the phone as soon as they call.

Oh yeah...the Patriots really want to help us out....come on guys.

I think this article is alot of Patriot homer wishful thinking.

Its always interesting to hear the fodder flying around. Personally I can see the Pats and the Phins trying to maximize their positions. Didn't T.O. go for a second? Im not surprised to see N.E. perhaps offer more lower round picks for Welker.

The problem with that is Welker. He is currently not under contract with us. If he can somehow be talked into and agree to a sign and trade deal, then this would be possible.

If he does accept and we get one of NE 1st rounder, we could use it for Ryan Kalil or someone who could really help us next year.
