Dolphins | Peelle struggling with drops
Tue, 15 Aug 2006 11:34:54 -0700
Jeff Darlington, of the Palm Beach Post, reports Miami Dolphins TE Justin Peelle has had difficulty hanging on to passes during training camp, which could hinder his chances of making the roster.

Yea we saw that on Saturday, he dropped a wide open dump off pass with plenty of road in front. Not good, we need guys who can hold on to the ball, we have enough of a hassle dealing with CC's drops, don't need a part time player dropping passes also.

Problem is, our other pass-catching threar at TE, Teyo Johnson, was horrible on Saturday. Not looking good.

Who else is out there on the waiver wire or FA market?

I have little patience for players who drop balls that are in their hands without even having to adjust their bodies. It's among the easiest things you can do in professional sports and I don't see why a professional football team should settle for anything less than catching that type of pass.

apparently Peelle's strength is blocking... not receiving...

Is it possible that with the potential talent we have at WR we only keep 2 TE's on the roster. Doubtful with Mularkey but given we have Culpepper and alot of WR's it would be nice to see us line up more 3 WR sets than 2 TE sets. On short yardage instead of a 2 TE set we could bring in an Alabi or extra OL guy on the outside. Just a thought but a 3 TE seems like such a waste if we have to cut a potential play maker at WR. Actually Toledo could fit given his background.

Exactly. Peelle was signed for his blocking ability. Any catching he does is a bonus, which the coaches are obviously trying to get out of him.

He could improve some, but the real problem is the other guys not named Randy. I'm still hoping Heinrich shows something the next 2 games.

I actually like having 3 TE's, u have ure potential pro bowler, u have a catching specialist and a blocking specialist, I luv that combo. And having those extra WR's dont mean much anywayz, u can only play so many . . . if a team is having problems in pass protection u can bring in that blocking TE to help out who may also be used in catching a pass or 2, I mean I feel what u saying, but just IMO I like having 3 TE's on the roster . . well more so than having an unnecessary amount of wide receivers.

Hopefully some of these kinks will get ironed out in the next few weeks. It is highly unlikely we will find a better alternative through the wires at this stage in the season.
