@goninja I doubt it. Just means Devlin doesn't hit open market. Procedural move. No risk on Dolphins part, it's minimum money non-guaranteed

Devlin was a routine inactive last season as the Dolphins' No. 3 quarterback. He'll fill that role once again in 2014 behind Ryan Tannehill and Matt Moore.

hmm, it had been reported on multiple outlets(including the team's official website) that Devlin was going to be a restricted free agent this offseason. Not an exclusive rights free agents. I always had questioned that since Devlin didn't have three full accured seasons, but I figured those news outlets would have been right. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining, I am glad he was an exclusive rights free agent and not a restricted free agent. The price to keep him is over $500,000 less as an exclusive rights free agent.

If I was the Dolphins I would not pencil him in as the #3 this season. He took steps each offseason/preseason, but I expected a little more out of him last year. With Moore's contract expiring after this season, they need to start looking for other future depth options. I would definitely spend a mid round pick (4th, 5th or 6th) on a quarterback to compete with Devlin and groom to be Tannehill's future backup.
 
I think a number 3 qb is a waste of a roster spot
 
Unless Moore restructures he's as good as gone, no way we pay him $4 million to sit on the bench.

It's not. I would rather see the emergency QB throw a pass than the punter or kicker. This team has had bad luck at QB for years you keep 3 QBs.

The 3rd qb isnt even active on game day, if they go down Daniel Thomas is QB not Devlin.

If Tannehill and Moore go down the game (and for that matter the season) is over. Having a young guy on the p.s. is more than enough cover imo
