A transition tag sighting! Dolphins placed transition tag on TE Charles Clay, per a league source. TE transition tag is $7.071 million

surprising...a $7 mil hit on clay for 2015...surprising

no ones gonna pay that compensation price to take him from us

Dolphins now confirm transition tag on TE Charles Clay.

I guess that tells you what they think of Clay.

is that cheaper than the proper tag?

I'm not that surprised, an entire staff on a one year contract, signing Anyne long term makes no sense when a rebuild could be coming.

7 mill for Clay on a one year deal isn't bad at all. If the next staff wants him you can revisit the process again next year.

Interesting… Word was he’d get more than $6M. Now he gets $7M RT @MiamiDolphins: The team has placed the transition tag on TE Charles Clay

Transition tag on TE Charles Clay is costing Dolphins $7.01M now. Team will continue to talk contract but his per annum floor seems set.

whats the compensation under the new cba to take a transition tagged player from another team??? it's not still 2 1st round picks is it...must be something different...this tag surprises me given the 2015 cap hit we just absorbed

Can confirm the transition tag for Charles Clay. Today's moves helped create the cap space.

Miami can match any contract offer to TE Charles Clay. No compensation if 'Fins choose not to match. "Poison pills" eliminated in 2011 CBA.

i suppose if he was getting 6/7 million this year anyway, a long term deal is still possible

Wow. I guess they like Clay more than I thought.

Next up is the "CLEARANCE" tag on Mike Wallace.

Definition: A Transition Player is a free agent who has had the Transition tag applied by his original team. (A club can designate one transition or franchise player in any given year.)

The Transition Player's club must offer a minimum of the average of the top 10 salaries of last season at the player's position or 120 percent of the player's previous year's salary, whichever is greater. In doing so, the team retains a first-refusal right to match within seven days an offer sheet given to the player by another club after his contract expires.

If the team matches the offer, it retains the player. If it does not match, it receives no compensation.

unless this is buying time for an extension i don't agree with it...should not be taking a $7 mil hit for one year on charles clay
