So it looks like if Jake didn't sign a contract by his due time the dolphins would have pulled the trigger on the other Long, that being Jake Long.

Chris Mortensen is reporting that the Dolphins were prepared to negotiate with Virginia defensive end Chris Long if they hadn't finalized a contract with Michigan's Jake Long by Tuesday. The Dolphins and Jake Long's agents, Tom Condon and Ben Dogra of Creative Artists Agency, had reportedly reached an agreement in principal last week, but the deal hit a snag based on the potential of a future labor dispute between the players and owners.
