Dolphins plan to honor Mandich, Schnellenberger and HS coach to boost ticket sales!

I can understand honoring Mandich, but Howard Schnellenberger and St. Thomas Aquinas HS Coach?? They are really stretching it in an effort to fill seats.

What next? Honoring Jim Kelly and the early 90s Bills at the home game against the Bills? Heck, Kelly is a former Cane! And there are a ton of Bills fans in South Florida. This would surely fill seats! What do we have to lose?

Schnellenberger is a former Dolphins coach, so there is a connection (Schnells was the OC I believe in the early 1970s for the Fins) there and a reason, with his retirement looming after this season. Mandich is a given, and should have been done last year when we all knew he only had a matter of time. But the St. Thomas coach is baffling, especially since you still have done nothing for the U of Miami, who has won 5 national championships. It looks to me like the Dolphins have some built in hate for the Canes. Maybe the reason why so few of them have ever been drafted by the Fins.

Considering most former Dolphins send their kids to STA, I'm not surprised they would honor Coach Smith. Half of STA's roster is former Dolphins kids. Shula's sons went there, Marino's daughters go there, Bryan Cox's kid is there, Cris Carters kid went there. Those are just the big names. Lots more have played for STA.
Also it doesn't hurt that Coach Smith is one of if not the best HS Football coach.

Shula's sons did NOT go there. The Shula's lived in Miami Lakes and they went to Christopher Columbus in the Westchester area of Miami (school is at the corner of SW 87th Ave and SW 32nd Street). As a matter of fact Bob Griese's three boys went to Columbus too, because he lived in Coral Gables.

St. Thomas Aquinas is a NFL pipeline. They've churned out the most NFL players ever.

Why not get recognized for it?

Plus Howard Schnellenberger deserves plenty of praise. He rose the University of Miami from irrelevancy and built the Florida Atlantic Owls from the ground up. Plus lest you forget, Schnellenberger was the offensive coordinator for the 1972 Dolphins. He spent 8 years in the 1970s with the Dolphins.

Schnellenberger is an iconic emblem among the inner circles of the coaching world at all levels. He's as respected and revered a living coach as there is today for his program building and coaching influence. I've listened to coaches referrence Schnellenberger at coaching clinics for 30 years.

He's a true program builder and a legend who learned from Bear Bryant, and took that knowledge on to assist Don Shula to a perfect season.

Howard is keeping pretty good company if you ask me...

It does made more sense than Gator day that's for sure.
If the team starts playing well they can honor anyone they choose I guess.
The pipe did start it all at the U and being a dolphin coach i think that would be fine.

I wouldn't even buy tickets if they were honoring my mother, and I love her to death.

Coach Howard Schnellenberger deserves the honor as much as Mad Dog Jim Mandich.
Coach Smith deserves an honor, but not from the Miami Dolphins.

My mistake, Shula's grandkids went to STA.
