DAVIE -- For the first time this preseason, several Dolphins players sported the jersey numbers worn by their counterparts on the Carolina Panthers at practice to prepare for Thursday's exhibition.

At Monday's practice Dolphins receivers Fred Gibson, Marcus Vick and Jamall Broussard were doing their best imitations of Panthers receivers Keyshawn Johnson, Steve Smith and Keary Colbert.

Running back Kay-Jay Harris was wearing William DeAngelo's No. 34, and defensive end Ben Ishola had on No. 90 for Julius Peppers.

"We go out there and have more of an in-season practice, some stuff against each other, some stuff against the scout team," Saban said. "Everybody is kind of a little bit out of synch, but I was really pleased with the way the players responded as the practice went on."

Hopefully our secondary can stay with Steve Smith....he killed is last year, and then did his reclining in the end zone after he scored on us.

I think this is the one preseason game we will really be able to put some perspective in to. The first two games, I don't really put much weight on them but this is the game where the starters will play at least the first half, and probably into the 3rd quarter. Also, the coaching staff obviously is preparing for this game as if it were for real. The Panthers are serious contenders and I really hope Smith plays so we can see how we stack up against the league's best.

Steve Smith will be a tough cover, especially on our secondary with DB's that are still trying to figure things out.

Any predictions on how many TD's Jason Allen will give up this game? jk..

Steve Smith almost beat us single handedly last year. The only comfort we can get is that he probably wont play very much. Our DBs are going to get a babtism under fire.

I got a picture of that ...

I hope he's healthy and at full speed... better to gauge our DBs by. No sense wishing he won't play - that'll just give our secondary less reps against the best players.

Yes, Kay Jay Harris was wearing #34 and then was traded to the Toronto Argonauts for an "unspecified" player for next year.
