Can anyone make sense of this? Philbin's supposed "modern NFL offense" is scoring less and racking up FEWER yards than Sparano's archaic, gimmick-riddled offense? It was Philbin's choice to neuter the running game, and this is the result.

Amazing isn't it? A new head coach comes in and you expect him to at least have a positive influence on the area in which he holds some expertise. Philbin is an offensive coach who can't seem to make our offense better.

He is bringing the "Green Bay Offense" to Miami. I cannot wait! Such a brutal selection.

How do hire a guy that was never a HC, never called the plays for his team and had limited connections to build a quality staff?

Defense is also worse. Lots of factors to this IMO though. The two biggest factors being personnel and the OC.

I doubt those differences in the table are significant statistically, and this offense isn't going to run as it's intended until it has a quarterback who can run it effectively, whether that's an improved Ryan Tannehill or someone else.

You really went out on a limb naming the players and the playcalling as the biggest issues. What else is there?

You don't think the utter lack of running game has any impact on this? Is that on the QB too?

I didn't see the stats on this, but I surmise passing TDs and yards are UP during the Philbin years, its just that the Total Offense is worse overall.

If the offense doesn't have a quarterback who's playing well enough to run it effectively, then of course that's going to heighten the importance of an effective running game to which the coaching staff is committed in terms of play-calling. However, if the quarterback is running the passing offense as it's intended, whatever inadequacies that revolved around the running game would be mitigated if not overcome completely.

i guess you weren't a dolphins fan during the Marino Era. Where there was absolutely no running game, and a phenominal passing game, yet, miami still couldn't make it to the big dance, minus his first year...

I watched intently throughout that era. It was a different era in terms of the emphasis on the passing game.

This is what happens when you can't/don't run the ball and you have a lot of negative plays.

For the record, I do think that Mike Sherman is a huge problem and people who follow Green Bay or A&M closely will probably agree with that. They warned us.

It's also worth noting, and I don't know why nobody has ever wanted to believe this, but we don't run the Packers offense. We run the Mike Sherman A&M offense. A lot of the concepts are similar, but it is not the Packers offense.

it doesn't matter what era it is, you need to have some kind of running game, to compliment your passing game. no matter how heavy your passing game is. the only exception to that rule is New England, and possibly Green Bay. So in other words, you'd need to basically have an elite QB, to get away with no running game. And that's just asking a lot, for a 2nd year qb. The other QB's in the same class as Tannehill, that are having success, have pretty damn good running games. Indy is possibly the weakest in the running game (other than miami), but when they struggle to run, the team seems to not play as well.

Guys .... really. It's ALL OF THE ABOVE, and more.

It takes multiple failures to produce the ineptness that this franchise has.

And here I was excited when we hired Joe. Thought we'd be throwing all over the place, scoring points, creating mismatches and running guys in motion.

Ya know, I never thought it could get worse than Dan Henning. Boy was I wrong.

What else is there? Off the top of my head, injuries to offensive players, acclimation of new players to the scheme and the bully-gate scandal.
