DAVIE - Miami Dolphins coach Tony Sparano acknowledged there has been some thought to having Ted Ginn Jr. return to his role as a special teams returner.

Ginn lost the punt returner role to Davone Bess last year because he was too tentative fielding punts. And he lost the kick returner job to Patrick Cobbs in week two because of his lackluster returns in the first game.

However, neither Bess nor Cobbs have shown anything special since. Bess is averaging seven yards on his four returns, and Cobbs is averaging 21.4 on 11 kickoffs.

7 yds per punt return isn't horrible... I like bess fielding the punts, he's shifty and sure-handed, but cobbs is absolutely terrible on kickoffs =(

Ginn is by far the best returner on the team (one of the best in the league) but really it would be a stupid move to have our #1 receiver field every kick. If he gets hurt what are we left with at WR??!?!

Cobbs doesn't even try to avoid defenders. He just runs into the first pile that he sees.

Hard to see how Ginn could get hurt unless its from diving to the turf when someone gets within 10 feet of him.

I'd rather see Ginn return kickoffs and have his WR play lessened. He could return kickoffs and have Camarillo (if he's actually healthy) come in or Hartline, bring in Ginn on 2nd or especially 3rd downs. Better blocking on 1st downs in that scenario as well- not a huge isuue, but an issue nonetheless. For all that Turner has been knocked and buried, I'd like to see him in the games and see what he can do.

That's the role that I see for Ginn, kickoff returner and 3rd down WR.

how about firing the ST coach? the blocking is obviously the problem not the KR/PR.

Point is Ginn's lackluster returns translate to the 30 yd line. Whereas a good Cobbs return gets you to the 25. Ginn definately needs to be the kick returner.

how bout we work on blocking better, maybe, just maybe we can open up some holes for Ginn. I know Special Teams isn't nearly as important as Offense or Defense, but with a player like Ginn at retuner we really need to work more with our special teams in order to become a better team, it could result in better field position, potentially more points, and it can really change the pace of the game, put the momentum on our side.

With what Ginn's brought to the table at WR, he should definitely return Kick-offs... it's not like we would be missing a real #1, sticky hands WR if he gets injured.

I was really looking forward to seeing Ginn this season, but he has dropped so many balls that i'm not that excited about him at WR anymore.

He is not the best receiver on the team, and not a real number one. he is a better returner than wide receiver...

No brainer really...
