Dolphins' poor start rooted in five years of bad drafts

Chew on this..

If we had drafted Brees.....maybe WH never sells the team.

I remember that draft weil. When they announced the pick, I threw a draft guide at the TV and left the house. Ya gotta think with Wanny as the coach Brees may not even be in league right now.

Right, cause then we would have a mediocre QB, be strapped by his ridiculous salary and have absolutely ZERO offensive line.

wow now Ryan is a mediocre qb god the hypocrisy on this site and that LT has led us to how many winning seasons

And your basis for saying Matt Ryan can't win a playoff game is what?

Remember, there's a difference between saying someone "can't" win a playoff game, and saying someone "hasn't" won one.
I was asking hypothetically about anyone, not just mr ice( do they call him that because he melts in the heat of the playoffs?)
But since you are defending him so hard, the fact that he crumbles in the playoffs doesn't bother you?

Question. If the Fins have the first pick in the '12 draft and Luck in available, hyopthetically would you trade the pick for M. Ryan or draft Luck?

What exactly has he done to prove otherwise?

His stats are...well....mediocre.
He has an incredible supporting staff, yet he is still "Above Average".
He is nothing more than an "Above Average" QB. PERIOD

he wasnt awesome in either playoff game but u could hardly say he crumbled in the playoffs. Lets also not forget each year they lost to the team in the afc that went to the superbowl so its not like they lost to some scrubs. They lost by six points to Arizona he was 26 of 40 in that game 2 tds 2 int not great but definately didnt choke in that game. Last year they were beat down by Green Bay but how many games will win if an opposing qb is allowed to go 31 of 36 passing. Ryan went 21 of 29 1 td and 2 int again not great but far from crumbling in the big game. The oline allowed constant pressure the whole game. Crumbling in the big game would be more like what Chad Pennington did when he threw 4 interceptions versus Baltimore in our last playoff game.

Amazing how its all the supporting staff with Ryan lol. You may also want to pick up Websters and see defintion of medicore in fact u contradict yourself when u say above average.

From Merrium of moderate or low quality, value, ability, or performance. Last season 28 tds and 9 int is far from middling in the nfl. Over the past three years 72 tds and 38 int is far from middling in the NFL 33 wins and 13 losses far from middling. This is on a team that for the three years prior did not have a winning season and was 19 and 29 the prior three seasons.

So the alternative is what? To have years of something worse than 10-6 over and over and hope we land a quarterback at least as good as Ryan at some point?

That doesn't sound too intelligent. What if you never land that quarterback? Then what? You just continue to struggle profoundly indefinitely?

Oh and by the way, Atlanta went 13-3 last year. What made us go 7-9 instead of the 10-6 you mentioned were Chad Henne's poor games at the end of the year against Buffalo, Cleveland, and Detroit.

13-3 and what happened in the playoffs? Blown out by Green Bay. Like I said, good enough.

My alternative is to not stick with a guy for a majority of his career that can get you to 10, 11, 12 wins but no championship. Hypothetically, let's say Luck is the next Peyton Manning in every way. Would bet on him winning more championships or Matt Ryan in the next 10 years?

So Henne's poor play lost us those 3 games. Ryan woulda won them, and then what? Playoffs? Sure. Championship? I don't think so. Matt Ryan's never going to win a championship IMO. I could very well be wrong, but I don't see it.

So, let me ask you this Glockz, where do you rank Ryan?
Top 3?
Top5?
Top7?
Top10?
Top15?

top 10 at this point in his career which is pretty damn good for a qb that has been in league three years. There are 32 teams in league so being top 10 in league definately makes u a top qb.
Drew Brees
Aaron Rodgers
Tom Brady
Phillip Rivers
Ben Roth

These are the only qb's I would rate over him not including Peyton because we dont knwo if he will ever play again and what he will be.
So of curerent qb's I rank him 6th

In his 3 years Ryan has never been in the top 10 in QB rating (11,20,11), and he is ranked 15th so far this year (Below Jason Campbell and Kevin Kolb). A QB rating in the mid 80's puts you right at the league average in today's game. Yes he's clearly better than Henne, but so is almost every starting QB. With the multiple "true franchise QB's" that this team has recently passed on, why are so many still hung up on not getting someone who's above average at #1.

He only seems so great in comparison to the **** we have. Its the same reason Kyle Orton seemed like a good QB 2 months ago. If your going to waste your time lamenting missteps, why not Brees and Rodgers.

I guess most people dont know Peyton manning's history very well. He was once 0-3 in the playoffs and in his third playoff game lost 41-0 to the jets. In that game he was 14 of 31 0 tds and 2 int.
Peyton was drafted in 1998 and did not win a playoff game until the 2003 season. I wonder how many would have said the same thing about Peyton manning going into the 2003 season

Don't forget the fumbles. In two playoff games matt ryan is responsible for 6 turnovers.
Can he be better? of course. Will he eventually win a playoff game? Probably.
But the fact that he seems to turn into a completely different player as soon as the playoffs begin, makes me wonder if he will always tighten up in the biggest moments.
Some guys play their best in the biggest games, other play their worst. It's fair to ask that of Ryan because that's what he has shown both times he has had the opportunity

I just have to comment on the irony of criticizing a QB for playing poorly in the playoffs when this team would just love if if they had a QB who could get them there in the first place.

Way too limited a sample to make that assumption. Two games like I said if u judged manning after his initial 0-3 playoff run and only throwing 1 td pass along with not so great completion percentage would u have the same assertation
