Dolphins' poor start rooted in five years of bad drafts

The blind hate of Matt Ryan on this site is hilarious

Not nearly as hilarious as the blind love for him. Not even close.

Go study the stats...he is what he is. A good, but far from great QB.

IF we had the #1 overall pick this year, would you settle for a good, but not great QB?

Are you honestly suggesting that Ryan should even be mentioned in the same sentence as Manning?

Really?

Guess what. Ryan is finally in the top 10 for QB rating...oh wait, that's actually Ryan Fitz.

Matty Splatty ICE, is barely above average sitting right at 15

Last year he ended up at 11
Year before that 20
Year before that 11

Which suggests...he is neither top 5, not even top 10.

I suggest the Falcons actually blew it. Matt Schaub has been ranked 7, 7, 9 and 6 this year. He is indeed well above average, much better than Ryan and has less options, and before he was in Houston, they were the laughing stock of the NFL offensively.
And all of that is so irrelevant it's not even funny, because Matt Ryan is so much better than the guy WE got.

Forget Peyton Manning and Matt Schaub and focus on the MIAMI DOLPHINS, since they're the ones that made the mistake.

No, actually what you are saying is COMPLETELY irrelevent.

Since the day it happened, you have been bitter as hell that we didnt pick Ryan.
I am relieved. He is "Okay". You would be willing to settle for "okay" from a #1 overall pick?

I absolutely don't understand that mindset.

No, I would make the same mistake again, draft a poor quarterback in the second round, and suck for another three years minimum.

Im comparing Ryan and manning because of the similar critique early in their career that they couldnt win a playoff game. Also yes I do think its fair to compare Ryan to Manning after three years because they are pretty damn comparable. Its not blasphemy. Ryan over his first three years has been been better than most nfl qb's in history over their first three years. 33-13 record pretty damn good stats with a mid 80's qb rating. No he has hasnt been Marino or Brady but most qb's are not at that level so soon but to act like he hasnt been a very good qb is to just to be blind.

Only on this site is 33-13 , 72 tds 38 int and a pro bowl Ok at qb lol

Once again, our mistake was not picking Long over Ryan, it was NOT trading for Schaub.

If you want to make that argument, I am in complete agreeance with you.

I like the John Beck pick, just not nearly so low. He would've been okay as a 4th round pick, but what that has to do with us picking Long over Ryan is completely over my head.

I'm tired of this.

Go compare QB rating, study the QB's that are in the top 10 and see how accurate of a Barometer it is. Aside from a few anomolys, it is pretty much SPOT ON!!!

Ryan has never ranked higher than 11th. He has only been that high once. He has a great supporting cast. He is not asked to do much in his offense. LOTS of guys could do what he does, and at least 10 could do more with what he has...... That is NOT what i want my team spending a #1 overall on.

I
'm done with this pointless argument

Yea lets not forget Matt swawb and his 25 -31 record and until this year hasnt sniffed a playoff game in 4 years as a starter.
for the record matt of houston is a good qb but to act like he is a better choice when u criticize Ryan for playoff losses and Swabby hasnt even made playoffs

Disclaimer:

No one is ever going to convince me Jake Long was a better choice than Matt Ryan, when we continue to lack a starting-caliber quarterback, and the Falcons are set with Ryan.

That's about all it boils down to, folks.

The team selecting first is still searching for its quarterback, and the team selecting third is set with theirs.

That's a mistake, no matter how you slice it IMO.

So qb rating alone is the only barometer for a qb ok gut ya. thats your barometer stick to it. Now I wonder if u compared all qb's in the league during the last three years where woukld he rank and Im sure its around top 10 since he was 11th twice and 20th once. Yea he just went to such a talented Atalanta team that had not had a winning record in 3 years and all three years he is there they have a winning record inspite of him, keep telling yourself that. hell u have been all around on this arguement anyway from calling him mediocre which clearly u dont know the definition of to pretty good which i assume u do.

Ryan is such an inadequate quarterback that the Falcons appear to be pulling out all the stops to replace him.

The last thing they'd ever do is trade lots of picks to move way up in the first round to get him another target.

Atlanta's about as unsettled at QB as we are, don't you think?

Everybody here who thinks Matt Ryan isn't good enough must be more of an expert on the situation than Atlanta's entire braintrust, who appear more than happy with their quarterback.

The Finheaven experts. Nobody better. Anywhere.

You'd rather stick with a guy who can't get you that many wins initially, and then hope you do better at some point in the draft, with no guarantee of it.

Yeah, that sounds like a better plan than having the guy who can get you 10 to 12 wins (uh, 13 last year, by the way).

Come on people. This is nuts.

So you're saying that we're sticking with Henne just as long as Atlanta is going to stick with Ryan? I don't have a crystal ball or anything, but it looks to me that we're going to bring in the next guy next year. But you go on and twist my posts around.

So, by this definition, I guess we should have dumped Dan Marino after 1984. Wow, this is silly.

Did you just use Dan Marino as an analogy for Matt Ryan? Get out of here.

I am saying, I don't see it in Matt Ryan. If Matt Ryan was Dan Marino, I would be saying "****, we should have drafted that guy instead of Jake Long"... but Matt Ryan isn't Dan Marino, is he?

It looked like that last year too. But we're the Dolphins and I never assume any bad decision is not going to happen.
