I really wish there would be some way that Tripp and McCain could get Wheeler and Ellerbee off the field.

  • Miami rookie linebacker Jordan Tripp continues to impress with solid play. Tripp received several reps with the first team defense, which is an interesting development. It’s no secret Miami’s linebackers have not played well dating back to last season. The Dolphins selected Tripp in the fifth round. But he’s proven to play smart, sound football in training camp and the preseason. “It’s fantastic when you get to be with the guys who have done it and some guys who been to the Pro Bowl, it helps you to play faster,” Tripp said of getting a few first-team reps. “I feel like I play faster out there with them, and it’s only going to make me better.”
  • The Dolphins have been battling each other all summer, and you can tell things are starting to get chippy. Miami rookie receiver Jarvis Landry was not happy after safety Reshad Jones blasted Landry after a reception. Landry, who didn't expect the big hit in practice, threw the ball in frustration but said afterwards there is no harm done. “He was just making a play and I was making a play,” Landry said afterwards. “It’s just football.”:D
  • The quote of the day goes to Miami veteran receiver Mike Wallace. When asked if the NFL’s renewed focus on calling penalties on defensive backs for touching receivers after five yards was a good thing, Wallace quickly responded “Yeah, on other teams. Not on our team. We don’t get those calls. I don’t know why, but that’s not our job to play for calls. We play to play the football.”
  • Dolphins backup receiver Damian Williams had one of his strongest practices to date. Williams made a pair of deep receptions from quarterback Ryan Tannehill for big gains. One was in team drills and the other was in one-on-one drills. Williams is making a strong push for a roster spot and appears to be in a groove. He led the Dolphins last weekend with three receptions for 46 yards against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Dolphins backup cornerback Kevin Fogg also had a nice practice with a pair of interceptions, which included a pick-six off backup quarterback Brady Quinn.
  • Miami starting tight end Charles Clay (knee) and running back Knowshon Moreno (knee) continue to progress. Both players fully participated in practice Tuesday. But Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said it’s wait-and-see if either will Saturday against the Dallas Cowboys.

Wallace is right too. That non-call on him on the deep ball the other night was atrocious.

Another interesting tidbit, James Walker tweeted that Tripp was practicing long snapping today, which apparently was his role at Montana. Denney is a Pro Bowler, but with some really tough cuts coming, is it possible that the Dolphins use Denney's spot to keep another bubble player? Not sure if that is even a possibility, but I thought it was interesting. Could be just for depth.

Probably for depth I'd think. I remember seeing a few teams who had their long-snapper injured with no capable back-ups...pretty ugly.

Tripp being insurance is one thing, however Denny > a bubble player, we don't want to be on the short end of the stick when it comes to long snappers.

Denney won't be cut. I think that Tripp was probably just auditioning as his backup in an emergency type scenario.

I recall JT was our emergency long snapper for a while. Denney isn't going anywhere.

Hmmm, Thigpen is pretty much done, between Landry and Williams' late push. Remains to be seen if we keep 6 receivers, but if we do, Williams would definitely be the 6th. Binns has been quiet all preseason, Cone and Hazel aren't quite good enough.

Would be nice to see us get something in a trade for a WR, but I don't think teams are going to trade for the guys we'd actually want to give them.

that's probably the biggest take away for me with tripp from the tampa game...the guy plays smart...not a lot of false steps positionally sound at lb...heard philbin say the smart thing too...definitely what stood out to me...

i'm still not sure if he's legit or if everything around him just stinks at lb though or is just too raw still...but he looks assignment responsible and trust worthy to be where you expect him to...and there's not much of that at lb for us

I'm praying Tripp can get the start over Wheeler. I know Ellerbe has failed to impress as well, but I think once the season starts rolling, he'll get back into the habit of playing his natural position and we should benefit from it. I see no end it sight when it comes to the agony that Wheeler has prepped and cooked up for us. If he reclaims his starting spot (which is obviously the most likely), I'll be ready to bang my head against a wall

And yesterday Omar was Tweeting that Tripp was doing poorly and couldn't shed blocks. :idk:

The other linebacker from Montana, undrafted rookie Brock Coyle, is balling out for Seattle as well.
