Dolphins preparing themselves to pay Eugene Monroe top LT money

I don't see it as 10m is to much as much as paying a lesser guy 6m and get 6m results.

They have the money, it is arguable the most glaring
need. Just do it.

Hurt in week 1. Hurt in week 17. Whats the difference? When's the last time he stayed healthy an entire season? Is that the type of player you want to spend top dollar on? Not me
 
He played the whole season except 1 game... That's the difference. Rams didn't pay top dollar for him is my point.. They paid him 4 million dollars for last season due to the injury clause. That's ****ing dirt cheap and he could have signed here for 8 mill with the same clause.

The point is that we don't make the right decision as a football program and it wasn't all Ireland's decision just like it isn't all Hickey's decision this year... We'd be making a bigger mistake in signing a good pass protector but horrible run blocker to top LT money when he isn't even in the 5 imo.
 
Long chose the Rams over Miami.....so I don't see where a decision is involved...anyway Jake is proving to be injury prone in the NFL.

Week 1 or 17...He wouldn't have been there for them in the playoffs (if they had made it).

Besides, Dawn will make it so its not a killer year one. A four or 5 year deal will be less cap hit. She will likely make it so we are not strapped each year but one player will have large cap # with Wallace being this year.
 
Eugene Monroe or Anthony Collins. I will be fine with either. That way we are not forced in to taking a LT in the first round.
 
this is plain and simple overreaction... You don't either have a GREAT OL, or the worst of all time one.. Its not because your team didn't succeed with the worst ever that it needs the top one to operate successfully... We need scheme fits, good players on that line, and unfortunately, we need 4 of them... FOUR! How in hell is it smart to pay the top FA this year 10 MIL per to fill ONE spot on a 5 man unit that needs 4 NEW starters... Talk about putting all your eggs in one wet ass paper basket... Nevermind that as a unit, the offensive line is just as strong as its weakest link... Major lack of judgement, that's what it is...
 
btw, if I were Hickey I would get Collins invovled day 1 if you can. It never hurts to have more irons in the fire and it gives us some cheaper options if you see close to equal talent or maybe we could sign both.

that would be a coup to me. Then you draft Martin and all you need is another G. G is much easier to get going as a rookie playing in a booth. Also you have Brenner and Gardner as backups to C and G if not starting.
 
I could see if it were Joe Thomas, but Monroe isn't even close. His run blocking is being overlooked due to his age and the lesser options is making him an overrated prospect. He doesn't deserve 11 mill but he is top 15 though for sure, so i'd say 6-8 mill range would be his value..

That's the thing. In a market where every tackle in the league were available, you're probably right. In a market where he is clearly the preferred player he can ask top dollar.
 
if he wanted 8 million he could stay put. you often have to overpay to acquire another team's free agent. we do have the advantage of no state income tax, so that might lower what we have to offer by a bit :)
 
Is Jared Veldheer also a FA? or did Oakland tag or resign him? Shouldn't that be the guy we dump 10mil a year into?

Well why would a Coach/ GM offer a player Big Money to want a player to leave ? IMO if we didnt want him here we wouldnt have offered him what he is playing for as of right now in St Louis , it had to be bad here for Long to not want to stay , after having a house here and already set , and take the same money to go else where , theres more to this than just Money , something smells ....
