LaMichael James still has a million dollar smile even as his disappointing NFL career nearly left him unemployed.
James was the nation’s most electric running back during his time at the University of Oregon and led the NCAA in rushing with 1,731 yards in 2010.
But he rushed for just 184 yards and primarily played on special teams in his two seasons with San Francisco after the 49ers took him in the second round of the 2012 NFL draft.
Now he’s getting his second chance. The Dolphins promoted him from their practice squad today and hes extremely confident — and motivated.
“I’ve got a little chip on my shoulder,” he said with a grin. “I want to go out here and prove I can play and prove my worth.”
James, a speedy 5-foot-9, 195 pound back, doesn’t know if he will play against Buffalo on Thursday. He said it might take another week. But he feels he can be a difference maker in Miami’s offense.
Lamar Miller is playing through a shoulder injury and there could be an opportunity for James even if Miller is at full strength.
“I can bring some excitement,” he said. “I feel like I can thrive in this offense. I really like it. I really like the coaches. I just think I bring a different element.”

He's a speed back that's smaller and not quite as fast as Lamar Miller. I do think James is a little better in open space however and he might be able to do some damage in this offense on a limited basis.

Lamar Miller has a literal chip on his shoulder, that's why he got signed to the active roster.

Well... I think Harbaugh is a dip ****, so just maybe he undervalued what Mr. James has to offer. Guess we'll soon find out.

This tells me Miller isn't 100% and they don't have confidence in Thomas. We may very well see him get a few carries against Buffalo. He could make Thomas expendable very soon.

He is hard to see around linemen. We may be on to something especially with read option.

What I like about what I saw in the highlights, is that there are not alot of wasted steps when he changes direction of does some moves. Its subtle enough that he doesnt lose momentum yet still effective in freezing defenders to gain the angle.

Seems quick, seems to have pretty decent vision, and if he has a chip on his shoulder, seems like a tough runner for his size. Not blazing straight line speed (wonder what his forty is), but good enough. I am interested to see what he brings to table.

With our luck, he'll have an MRI on his shoulder by the end of the week.

Lazor commented in his presser that he likes how James runs routes. I'd love to see an electric weapon like that coming out of the backfield as an X factor.
