Dolphins reaching out to Zach Streif

Exactly, so him signing with us likely means he had NO CHOICE! I don't want a player thats reluctant to be here. Either your damn near 100% committed or go kick freaking rocks like I said before.

The hell with him and if your not careful your gonna get it a hell with you too.

The Saints don't have the cap space so it makes no sense if he uses us as leverage.

Yup just like they didn't have cap space for Byrd. If they want him there, they'll find a way. Especially after finding his market value.

I hope we can get him but I'm not holding my breath at this point. We need linemen tho.

Ozzy rules!!

The Saints don't even have enough cap space to sign their draft picks right now (only abt. $2.4 mil under the cap AFTER clearing Sproles). They are going to have to get creative just to do that. They don't have the money to pay Streif unless he's willing to play for well lower than his value.

Even if Streif took a vet minimum deal they would have to clear even more, never mind rookie draft picks.

I would be interested to see how they would do this. They have 13M dead money, that's 10% of the cap. Right now (after getting rid of Sproles) they are 2.6M under the cap and they need to find some room to sign their rookies. I am not saying it's impossible, but it would be really difficult for them to do.

Deeeeeeeeeeeeeep breaths

As a Saints fan I can tell you about Zach Streif -

The Good -

Massive at 6' 7", 320 lb.

He'll give you everything he's got (unfortunately he isn't that athletically gifted)

Solid pass blocker whose massive size shields off defenders

The Bad -

Like all Saints' O lineman he benefited massively from Payton's quick read, quick release scheme and Brees lightning fast release. This tends to make average OL look great and good OL look All World

Average at best run blocker. Despite his size he isn't a road grader in the running game.

He also benefited from playing next to perennial Pro Bowl Guard Jahri Evans.

He'll be 31 this year and suffered injuries (he hasn't finished a full 16 game season since 2009)

This is why the Saints interest in re-signing him is only lukewarm. Even before the draft the Saints have two guys vying to replace him - Marcel Jones who is physically identical to Streif at 6' 7", 320lb. and Bryce Harris 6' 6", 305 lb. The Saints are only around $1.1 under the cap at this point so they aren't going to be able to match any offer for Streif but my guess is he'll give the team a chance before signing elsewhere.

You live in Louisiana?

I realize the Saints are a good team, but South Florida is a much better place to live than New Orleans. I lived in New Orleans for a year when I was younger and my dad's family is from there.
New Orleans epitomizes the "nice place to visit, but wouldnt want to live there".
