One of the biggest worries for players and coaches about this summer’s NFL lockout was that the loss of offseason minicamps and practices would lead to sloppy football this fall. It’s hard to say if the lockout is having any sort of effect on the NFL as a whole. But the Dolphins – who had to learn a new playbook and offensive system during the five weeks of training camp – sure look like they could’ve used the practice time and coaching. Through three games they are 0-3, 27th in the NFL in scoring (17.7 ppg), 30th in total defense and 26th in turnover differential. And it’s not because they’re a bad team. It’s because the Dolphins are having major communication issues on both sides of the ball — issues that could have been solved by now, if the players had a normal offseason program. In Week 2, a communication error between Nolan Carroll and Reshad Jones led to Andre Johnson’s wide-open game-clinching touchdown. And multiple offensive players said this week on WQAM 560-AM that communication issues have held the team back in the Red Zone.“We still have a new offense. We’re still ironing everything out,” Brian Hartline said Monday. “We do move the ball, but I would say that the biggest thing is probably communication. We did have some situations where Chad (Henne) gave us some different signals, we didn’t get them or we’re hearing different things.”Henne agreed on Tuesday, saying the team has been beset by “communication problems. Just not everybody doing their job.” So did Davone Bess.“Whether it’s the receivers — on my behalf, not getting a signal, messing up a play that could have potentially been a touchdown, or whether it’s the quarterback not giving the signal out and the line not understanding what the protection is,” Bess said. “And these are errors that we are causing on ourselves. It’s not even the defense. It starts with us.”http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thed...fl-lockout-appear-to-be-hurting-the-dolphins/
