Dolphins Receive Permission to Interview Pete Carmichael Jr.

O.K. if they do this all is forgiven from me concerning Cam Cameron. It might make up some for losing both Garrett, and Shula...However , he is currently the Saints QB coach so how can we hire him here in the same capacity?

Isn't that against the rules?

And how did Shula and Garrett help us???:shakeno:

It doesnt matter a whole lot because qb play is something coach cam will have a good eye for...

Again Garrett was an upgrade to Mularkey, and Shula probably has deep insight into this years draft coming out of the SEC since he's coached there for three years. Especially in the latter rounds, should we decide to trade down. That's how they COULD of helped us.

:rolleyes2

Not since we were given permission.
How it works is....

Lateral coaching moves are not allowed unless permission is given.
A lateral move to the NFL means any assistant coach job to any other assistant coach job. So, hiring another team's assistant strength and conditioning coach to be your "offensive coordinator and assistant head coach" would not be allowed...unless the other team gave you permission to talk to him, even though it would obviously be a promotion.
The only move allowed for a coach who does not have permission to talk to other teams is from any assistant coaching position to head coach.

Wow, he must of expressed interest in coming here for the Saints to let him interview with us. That's super classy of them to give permission if that's the case.

Good, snag him at all costs....I bet the Saints are on the schedule next year. Anything we can do to slow those guys down we need to do. If they develope a pass rush and replace Fred Thomas with anyone decent then they are going to give everyone hell next year. Plus this guy is young and talented....

Based on Saban's two drafts here, I would say familiarity with the college game is overrated. First, theres plenty of time for scouts and coaches to watch every snap a guy has played in college. Secondly, Shula would only be a position coach, thus have limited input anyway. Randy Mueller and his staff spend the year travelling the country and preparing for the draft. The impact would have been minimal.

Hey Cam...you have the best QB coach right here in your backyard!
Hire Strock!!!

That's just it...Saban's insight into the SEC was Louisiana. Other than watching Ronney Brown from Auburn run all over him. He had recruiting in Louisiana all to himself. At Alabama you HAVE to compete with Auburn in state therefore you have to look at the whole region. Saban is going to catch hell at Bama...especially now that he's developed the credibility thing. Plus position coaches attend the Senior bowl and I'm sure they sit in on the head Coach's planning sessions.

That's what I thought too, but look at the Mueller/Tennessee situation, where it was reported Ten only notified, not asked for permission, Miami because of the way the contract was worded, i.e. Randy's current contract he reports to the HC.

Next year's opponents have already been determined. The Saints aren't one of them.
