It's Only Happened ONCE!
Look no further than the Dolphins’ recent red zone defense to help explain why this unit’s results defy its statistics. It’s the recent red zone performance that helps explain why a defense ranked 30th overall and 30[SUP]th[/SUP] against the run (141.8 yards per game) can be a major part of a 10-win team.
During their current three-game winning streak the Dolphins have allowed red-zone touchdowns on just 23.1 percent of possessions (3 of 13).
In winning nine of their last 10 games, the Dolphins allow opponents touchdowns just 45.5 percent of the time in red zone (the area inside your own 20-yard line). That figure that would rank No. 4 in the NFL over the course of the season.
For the entire season the Dolphins are allowing opponents touchdowns on 55.3 percent of their red zone possessions, a figure that ranks 18[SUP]th[/SUP] in the NFL.
“We track four or five major stats,” defensive coordinator Vance Joseph said, “and we’re pretty good at those – yards per pass play, takeaways, sacks. Those things we track – red zone.
“Obviously the yardage stats, it can come from a lot of different things as far as plays played. We played 94 snaps [at Buffalo]. But again, we care about winning and the stats are the stats. I’ve been on a team where my last year in Houston we were 2-14, but we were No. 1 in defensive stats. So I’ll take this.”
As for the other stats Joseph cited, the Dolphins’ defense is tied for sixth in takeaways (25), 11[SUP]th[/SUP] in yards per attempt (6.9), and 16[SUP]th[/SUP] in sacks (33) for the season.

Would love for the Dolphins Defense to end the regular season at an even 40 Sacks! :d-day:
