Dolphins Release Patterson...

It is BS is they award Taylor the spot across from Grimes. He has done nothing to earn it. He should have to work his way through nickel and dime jobs before becoming a starter.

They're not just gonna award Taylor anything. No doubt they'll bring someone in to compete for that other CB position. Let's not just assume anything when we're still 6 months away from meaningful football! There's still options via FA and the draft.

Not exactly sure why releasing Patterson TODAY was the best idea. Unless the Dolphins have NO intention on bringing him back. Otherwise, if there was a possibility of bringing him back, the better move would have been to wait until after the first wave or 2 of FA when other teams have already spent their $$$. Then cut him and he would have virtually no where else to go and would be more open to re-signing with the Dolphins. Shrewd, yeah; but there's a business side to this as well. As I said, only IF the Dolphins MIGHT be considering Patterson later at a lesser cost.

i would love to have dimitri patterson back. we should offer him like $350,000 for every game that he starts (i'd say "and finishes" but that might be too harsh, lol). that would put him at 5.6 million for the year if he starts all 16 games. it would be so worth it, and protects the team.

carlos rogers let go by san fran. is he washed up?

I don't think Taylor is a lock to be the starter opposite Grimes. They are likely going to add a veteran CB to the mix and don't forget about Will Davis. He was looking very good in preseason.

I dont like the move because he is a playmaker. With that said im far from surprised this happened. When you have injury problems and a high cap hit with no cap hit if cut its and easy decision.

Hope they resign him for less. If not a second level Vet to compete with Taylor and Davis.

Bad move. We didn't have to cut him now. He has no bonuses due, and no guarantees. We could have at least brought him to camp and cut him if and when we needed cap space. Right now we have no legit CB2.

Why is it a bad move cutting the guy before FA has begun? No legit CB2 you say, that's why free agency and the draft exists.

Where are you getting this info that Taylor was awarded anything?

Because we didn't have to cut him. It's not like we are cap strapped, but we are thin at the position now. We just created another hole on the team.

Because as of right now, he is No 2 on the depth chart

How do we not know we asked him to restructure and he refused? I don't understand people who question every move. Honestly this was an easy move to make and I was extremely surprised we didn't make it last year considering he has always had injury problems. With that said, I wouldn't mind him back on a 1 year deal worth vet minimum plus incentives.

Depending on how they play Michael Thomas/Jimmy Wilson we are four deep at the corner position with Grimes, Davis, Taylor, and Wilson. Wilson played a lot of nickel once Patterson went down. Wilson only struggled when he was moved on the outside but actually looked ok in the slot.

If you referring to Albert I'm with you. I wasn't a fan of the move last season and though more desperate I'm still not a fan!

Now, if only we could do something about that R.Jones fella! Gosh, what a disappointment.

Jones was forced into a lot of two deep when he's obviously better as a free roaming, in the box safety.

The Dolphins will enter free agency tomorrow with some $40 million in available space.

Omar Kelly ‏@OmarKelly 52s

The release of Dimitri Patterson now puts the #Dolphins at $40,681,273 in cap space. Only Oakland, Jacksonville & Cleveland have more

My God Ireland was a freakin' genius...

Too bad....Patterson was good when healthy, however this needed to happen. Too much money for someone who see the field so little. Let's see what they do with the money tomorrow.....
