The Dolphins will look to re-structure some contracts and add to their cap space this offseason, along with cutting some players. A good place to start is with one main player: Karlos Dansby. Karlos Dansby has around an $8M cap hit for 2013, and that will likely be non-negotiable. However, his cap hit takes a jump straight to $11M for 2014, the last year of his contract. That is a very high number for an aging LB. On the other side of Karlos Dansby is Kevin Burnet who signed a Signed a four-year, $21 million contract. The deal contains $9.8 million guaranteed. His 2013 salary is $4.35 mil. He could be a cap casualty also.
Another player is Richard Marshalls. Marshalls Signed a three-year, $16 million contract. The deal contains $6 million guaranteed, including a $3.5 million signing bonus. His 2013 numbers are$4.55 million. Richard Marshall has to be considered a major dud for Jeff Ireland as he was the Dolphins primary acquisition. Dolphins placed CB Richard Marshall on IR after the fourth game of the seson. He wasn't very impressive when playing and the injury has plagued his season.
Another intriguing player is Dimitri Patterson. Patterson was only acquired off of waivers by Miami on 12/18 but played the entire game this past week. Patterson was a player the Dolphins liked before he signed a three-year deal with Cleveland in the off-season. Now that they have him, Miami may choose to look elsewhere in free agency and the draft. The journeyman may have to restructure his contract as he's set to earn $4.5 million in 2013, but he has a chance to stick as a starter or third corner in Miami. Sean Smith is an impending unrestricted free agent and Nolan Carroll/Jimmy Wilson have struggled. With Sean Smith being a free agent, he certainly would control another $4-$5mill easy. The question now is do the dolphins want to pay three corners five million a year?
Kevin Burnet Lb $5,700,000 mill
Dan Carpenter K $3,000,000 mil
Ritchie Incognito OL $5.3 mil
Rishard Marshall CB $5.7mill
Karlos Dandby LB $8.5mill
Dimitri Patterson CB $5mill
