Running back Ricky Williams, left, is trying to regain his old form. Meanwhile, rookie Chad Henne and John Beck want to be the Dolphins' QB of the future.

Perhaps the players can't see the franchise for the scaffolding. Or maybe it's a simple case of denial.

The Miami Dolphins are talking proud after their worst season in franchise history and one of the most absolutely awful campaigns the NFL has seen.

"As far as I'm concerned, we're not rebuilding," 11th-year defensive end Vonnie Holliday said Saturday, when training camp opened and the Dolphins got to work on trying to erase the memory of a 1-15 mess.
"I can't rebuild. … I'm competing like we're going to the Super Bowl this year."[/quote

What veteran player wasn't to admit they're on a rebuilding project? Risking injury to lose. Unbelieveable! What does one expect them to say?

As long as the front office knows that they are rebuilding I have no problem with the players trying to win the superbowl anyways.

I think that's a great quote from Vonnie. The players have to remain focused on performing to their best. The FO is responsible for the "rebuilding project", let them worry about that.

Good I hate most of todays sports writers. What else do they expect players and true competitors to say "Yeah were rebuilding, we'll prob. only win a few games, but wait a few more years and we'll be competing".

What does it matter.... forget the labels.... it appears the Trio is running a VERY tough camp... and they expect to win every game.... one play at a time... one practice at a time... one day at a time... one game at a time... it's a process....

Now the chances of that happening are very slim... but that has nothing to do with the prepared mentality of the staff and players.... it's a belief system being installed...

A "rebuilding" mentality would guarantee the team failure this year. They are going into the right season with the right mentality and are doing things the right way.

As much as I hate Parcells, you guys are in very good hands.

I've been thinking about this for a while and this is what I believe...

Rebuilding is for the front office. It's for them to make the personell decision with the future in mind and not the present.

Rebuilding has nothing to do with what the players think or feel. They go out and try 100% and try to win. What, are they supposed to say, It's okay I didn't get that sack because we are rebuilding? No, to them it is business as usual. Rebuilding is a mentality of the front office and fans, that's it.

There is no reason we can't be competitive and win games while we are "rebuilding" we do not have to go 1-15 every season until we are all of a sudden ready to compete. I don't see anything wrong with having a winning attitude. No ones goes into the season and says, "well since we have a lot of new players on the roster and we got rid of some older vets, we are only gonna try and win a couple of games." screw that! the players and coaches have to be optimistic and go into the season thinking and telling the players we CAN WIN NOW. why not?

In baseball terms we're known as sellers! not Buyers which means we suck, we're tanking the season, and ditching all our good players. I wonder if they're giving refunds to the fans who bought season tickets.

I agree that as long as the FO understands it's a rebuilding project that's fine.
The players can think what they want.

Totally correct. I expect the FO to see it as a rebuilding process because that is what it is. It doesn't mean that the coaching staff and the players have to lay down and give up and I don't expect them too. We have a lot of youth on this team. A young hungry bunch of guys who are going to give their all to make it. If they don't then show them the door.

i still think we can win a superbowl f uck rebuilding i want to see competition and wins
