Dolphins retain FS Bell, QB Lemon

[FONT=Verdana,Arial, Helvetica]The Dolphins now hold the exclusive rights to free safety Yeremiah Bell and quarterback Cleo Lemon, who didn't agree to offer sheets with other teams before the NFL's Friday deadline for the signing of restricted free agents. Bell and Lemon were both tendered one-year, $1.3 million contracts.

The Dolphins made second-round tender offers to Bell and Lemon as restricted free agents. A team that wanted to sign either player to an offer sheet would have had to surrender a 2007 second-round draft choice if the Dolphins declined to match.

For all we know Cleo Lemon is our starting QB. In that case 1.3 million is dirt cheap.

As far as Bell goes, he is defintely worth it but we better draft a very good strong/free safety to back him up. He plays with reckless abandon and Tillman may not actually remain on the team.

Figured no one would try signing them. Only Bell had really any value but the price tag we put on him was too much for teams.
 
Good to hear. I wonder how contract talks will go with Bell.
 
This is good news for the team. I wonder if the Dolphins would have let Lemon walk for a 2nd round pick. That would leave us with no QBs other than a gimpy Daunta.
