Dolphins rookie Wright to undergo surgery

It's OK, Saban is a college guy. This will just be a "redshirt" like Vickerson last year. His talent when healthy is way better than a 7th rounder.

How long does this injury take to heal? Is it safe to consider him done for the year?

not necessarily. If the rehab goes well, he could be back by midseason. Nick may want to keep him on IR to save the roster spot though.

Yeah I think last year showed us that Nick sees the big picture. He put several players on IR that thought they could come back last year. He would rather them be completely healthy so he judge them while they are at their best. He also is in this for the long haul, so picking Wright up and letting him get healthy is like taking our 7th rd pick and trading it for a 2nd or 3rd in next years draft, and who wouldn't do that.....that is of course if Wright can come back and be the player we think he can become.

Yep, my thoughts exactly.

I think Saban could be starting a new trend with taking injured players and then "redshirting" them. Havent heard of many coaches doing this

In the last of Saban's post-draft press conferences, he told of a story when he was in Cleveland of drafting an injured NT. He had surgery, healed, and then became the NT for their number one defense. So this trend is not new, but maybe Saban utilizes this long-term potential value strategy (fixing talented guys) more than other coaches.

He'll be playbook smart come next season.Studying the playbook and learning the plays from the sidelines. He was good in college.
