How do you think long and the rest of the new guys we drafted this year are doing

I think everyone on here will say they are very impressed by this rookie class:up:

Long is fantastic. Anchor for the line for the next 5-10 years.

Langford and Merling are strong and tough 3-4 dlineman. they know their jobs and they are doing them well.

Bess had two big drops today but the one he did catch mattered most.

Henne is the man. Regardless of play time.

Merling and Langford are studs in development. Long is something we we've never ever had in Miami. Bess turned out to be a great pickup. Even Donald Thomas i was high on until his injury. That kinda broke my hopes, us being 0-2 and losing to the Cards was a nightmare come true lol. Not to mention that somone I was so excited about was done for the year. But thats a seperate issue the fact that we've turned things around and are 6-4 has the makeup of a fairy tale season, and in order for those things to happen all of the people that i just mentioned had to have been serious contributres. I like our team, i like our players. I like our coaches, well maybe not the S.T. guy so much at the moment but oh well things are good!

Long is a beast. One of the plays today he blocked 3 guys at the same time all by himself haha.

Merling and Langford are a huge reason why the Fins are so good against the run.

They dont get the big stat numbers, but Porter would'nt have 13.5 sacks if it was'nt for those two.

Jake Long - PERFECT LT for this offense . . . already a top 10 LT in the league . . and he is still learning and making mistakes, he will be very special.

Merling and Langford - Your LDE and RDE for the next 10 years . . . we draft Cody next year and put him at the NT . . . that line WILL be better than New Englands line.

Henne - Not his fault Chad P is playing pro bowl football . . . but from what I saw in preseason and vs. Arizona . . . he is poised in the pocket and has a gun . . . pretty accurate too. He is the future

Donald Thomas - Experts watching this kid play in camp and preseason have said he is a future pro bowler . . . that is amazing from a 6th round pick . . steal of the draft?

Davone Bess - I rag on the kid a bit because he was handling the return duty when I obviously feel Ginn should be doing them all . . . but what a steal . . . a solid WR and shifty punt returner . . . good that we can find these kind of kids as UDFA's . . . great contributor to the team.

I'm not even mad about the running back selections . . . Hillard and Parmalee . . u know, Ronnie came off of ACL surgery . . . I don't think his rehab gets enuff credit . . . just freakish to be honest with you . . . Ricky, well we never ever ever will be able to fully depend on him, even if he is a stud that was healthy. And I don't think anybody thought Cobby was this good, I liked him, I didn't think he was so versatile and such a playmaker. BP had to cover his ***, and then u develop the 2 backs on the PS, just in case u can't get ricky longer than next year or if Ronnie wants to opt out . . . who knows, but u have insurance policies that know the system in reserve.

The only HUGE dissappointment is Shawn Murphy . . . but we were informed the kid was a project from the beginning . . so I guess we shouldn't be suprised . . . but man, all the injuries at RG and u would think he would step up being that we spent a 4th and a 7th to get him. Still got time for him to develop, but so far, that has been the only dissappointing pick.

Plus we picked up London and Culver off of Practice Squads, I mean this has been the best draft in 10 or so years, maybe longer. Hell of a job by the Trifecta.

Oh yea . . . Mr. Montana . . . Dan Carpenter . . . Mr. make u say "Feely who?" . . . clutch baby . . . what a pick up this kid was. He hit the game winning kick for us and I think everybody is starting to get that comfort zone with him that we had with Feely last year . . . that we did NOT have with Mare the final few years he was here. I know he gets beat up for not kicking it out the endzone . . . but bad coverage doesn't help. I like Carpenter.

Don't forget about that kid from Montana that kicked a GW FG today.

They are going to be studs...the Dolphin future is looking very bright right now...give me a couple more drafts with similar talent levels as this year, and we are going to be a flipping force to be wreckoned with....

I think Kdawg summed it up pretty well. Let me just add a little.

Jake Long: Critics questioned his pass protection but he's shown he has more than enough quickness and physical ability to become a dominant pass protector. Nobody in this draft is as much of a force in the running game as Long. He is still learning, which is scary, but he looks every bit the player the most positive assessments projected him to be.

Phillip Merling: Adjusting well to the 34 DE role. He has shown all of the quickness and physical ability we hoped he would have and appears to be fully recovered from his injury. Still has a lot of rookie inconsistencies, but he'll learn it eventually.

Kendall Langford: Stud. He is exceeding even the most rosy projections for him, and is starting to remind me of a Leon Lett physically. This kid is BIG, but still has tremendous quickness over short distances, a wonderful ability to use his natural reach and body extension, and exceptional power. He is an ideal, prototypical 34 DE. Probably the most impressive thing about him is how he transitioned from relative small college football at Hampton University to really grasping the NFL DE position with ease. Real gem of a pick here by Ireland & Co.

Chad Henne: IMHO, not enough information to evaluate yet. Like 7-11 coffee, just let him perccolate (sp?) for a while and hopefully he'll be ready when it's prime time. :)

Shawn Murphy: More of a pass protector than run dominator. Because we're starting a rookie LT and 2nd year C, Sparano wisely put a relative veteran (Smiley) in between them at LG. This has worked great, but Smiley's best position is RG. IMHO, Donald Thomas was touted as the raw physical specimen with tremendous upper body strength who was best suited for RG, and Murphy was more of an athletic pass protector best suited for LG. Given the wisdom to start Smiley at LG for this season, I don't think Murphy really had much of a shot of starting immediately. But, next year we may hear a lot more about Murphy if the coaching staff feels Long and Satele have progressed enough to allow Smiley to move back to his more natural position of RG and pull to Long's side. It would certainly help the running game immensely to have Smiley pulling to Long's side, but much of it depends upon the pass protection of having the entire left side being 2nd year players. No slight on Donald Thomas who was doing great, but I think he is a case of being injured before he was really exposed and some people wildly overrating what he has done. Thomas was a bright prospect, but I don't think anybody on the Dolphin staff thought he even had the starting job completely sewn up. He's not the finished article, just a talented guy who is progressing nicely. Next year 1 guard position will be completely up for grabs. Murphy has a shot at LG and Thomas has a shot as RG (if they decide to keep Smiley at LG), and I think there will be many other contenders too.

Davone Bess: Not really starter material, but a good UDFA pickup. Our weak WR corps. really is giving him lots of time to shine and he's done well.

Dan Carpenter: Real pleasant surprise. The lone bright spot on a ST unit that was loaded with veteran NFL standout ST performers and somehow has managed to perform poorly, lol. Carpenter has performed quite well fortunately.
